Recently this fell out from under the dash…we have no idea where it goes or if it’s important or if it’s there for an option this Jeep doesn’t have. Any thoughts? Looks like a jumper loop. Yellow with Red strip, 2 pin plug. I’m guessing it is a body mounted plug with that push connector on it.

Which side of the dash did it fall out of?
Find the FSM for your TJ and go to section 8W for the wiring area.

If it was on the drivers side it might be the clutch safety plug that bypasses the clutch safety switch.

That seems like a likely culprit. It fell out a couple moths ago and nothing quite working so we ignored it. I’m laid up post op right now figured I’d ask a few questions while Im stuck doing nothing. I’ll have the teenager take a look when he’s home from school this evening and see if I can find an actual picture of it somewhere to verify too. Diagram definitely helps.

I’m digging trough that FSM too.

Yep this is it. It was previously hanging from where it was taped into the harness and I think the jeep just got hot enough under the dash to release the tape and dropped it into the floor board. It sat in the shop for a few weeks when it was really hot and the dash recently got removed and probably didn't get re-attached to the dash framing during all that.

Glad you figured it out. I'd installed mine since I'd been driving a manual transmission rig since I was a kid & we didn't have clutch inlocks then so I knew to always push in the clutch to start it. Newer TJ's just had a fuse your pulled to bypass it but the 97 were different. Just one of the few things about them.
