Does it matter how they are stored, in terms of compressed or not, laying or standing up?

My old Foxes have been laying on the shelf for the past year, not compressed. Now I'm wondering if they ship them compressed for a reason or to save space.

Compressed is best. The exposed rod does oxidize a small amount and the less exposed the better. Obviously they are exposed on the vehicle but there is just no downside to protecting it in storage. Cycling the shock once will clear it but there will be a tiny bit of wear on the seal and you can avoid that.

They need to be compressed or it will surely destroy them. Go ahead and send em my way and I will properly dispose of them for you at no charge.

You realize how Fox stores them at the manufacture, right?

Just store them however they fit best in your garage.
