Preparing for TAT

The one that asked if he got it in prison :D ... with a machine made from a cassette player, Bic pen tube, and guitar string needle.

A friend of mine at a shop did tats for correctional officers. They would give him confiscated home brew machines.

I gave my friend artistic freedom, but drew the line at the ghetto machine :D

Pen ink diluted with water and a paper clip was my preferred method. Don't get me started on the toilet water alcohol we made with apples. 🤫

Bag extra U joints. But bring good shoes for walking miles if the need arises. I did SAR for a while and was amazed how easy it is to get screwed up. DAHIK.

It'll take more than good shoes for me to be able to walk very far. Too much arthritis. I think a sat phone and extra water will be the plan so I can wait for someone to find me. 😀

Are they OE? I'd change them just due to age. I had a lot more miles on mine when I did them, and everything looked fine.
But when I got the axle joints out, the grease was just black dough, and the bearings were starting to wear.
Changing u-joints in the middle of BFE is not on my bucket list.

2 things not absolutely necessary, but will definitely be glad you did it if you have a failure on the trail.

Gas pump access panel, and trans crossmember.

Both make trail repairs a lot more doable on the trail.

I installed my gas tank access panel first time I had to replace the pump, Oreily's has a lifetime warranty, the first pump lasted about a month... swapped in the second one on the trail, easy peasy... it's lasted 2 years now.

The crossmember has helped several times on the trail. It makes it super easy to drop the belly skid for anything in that area you need to get to. Like my transfer case selector was loose and wouldn't go into 4 low, once I bent my front drive, and had to pull it... way easier when you can get to the trans case end, and once I had cracked my transmission housing... helped me figure out where and how bad it was, was able to limp off the trail.
