Pray for Oregon

Only had a bit of smoke earlier but wow it just blew in over the last 20 minutes. Everything just went red.

Holy crap. Inciweb has a lot of fires on it.

https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/

I followed several fires back in the day when my brother had one moving in close. I found the scanner frequency online and listened to them talk as they put out the fires in his town. The fire burned up the street but they stopped it 2 blocks from his house. The town was evacuated and he got back in weeks later after they repaired the mountain roads. That was maybe 10 years ago.

I bet the online scanner channels are better now.

Hey @Rubi04, maybe if you lose your house to the fire you can collect a fat insurance check and buy a new house elsewhere? I know that’s still not a good thing, but possibly a blessing in disguise?

I suppose it depends on how much you get from the insurance. And of course I still hope that doesn’t happen, but I always try to look at the negatives as having an upside.

Yeah, thought crossed my mind for sure. Sucks to lose all our stuff if that happens but it is just stuff. The Jeep is proper fucked right now, doors and top off and so much ash.....

I guess if it happens it was meant to be...

That’s how I look at situations like this. If it happens, it was meant to be. Things can often be blessings in disguise.

Oh yeah, you’re going to have to do some serious cleaning to get all that ash out 😮

Totally. Not looking forward to the cleaning at all. I’m thinking of just pulling it all apart and power washing it. 🤷‍♂️

Just having to smell that smoke all day long SUCKS. It is clear over at my place now but the smell is still in the air. And I really feel bad for those who have raspatory issues who are having to deal with all this smoke.

Something needs to be done to help lower the number of fires are states are experiencing. Not going to get into the political BS about the WHAT'S and WHY'S.

Yes I suffer from asthma and my mother is in remission from lung cancer, it sucks bad right now for many of us breathing this junk.

From what I gather it is the states not allowing legit logging to clear out the dense trees and underbrush. Back in the 20’s-50’s we didn’t have these huge fires. Mostly due to proper forest management. CA wouldn't even allow (and I’m sure Oregon and Washington does the same) the power companies to cut brush and perform maintenance near their areas of high risk.

Now I’m not an expert and we have a few here that work in the forest industry, but that’s what I read and it makes sense to me. If you don’t keep your forests clean and managed, you get these out of control fires.

When you own property you don’t let the tress to pack up, underbrush to grow and turn so dense it is a fire waiting to happen, just the same with keeping trees and brush away from your home as a natural fire break.

That’s the best I can come up with without diving into politics.
