You are always so quick to judge and wield the idiot sword, my friend. Take a chill pill. I think you are wrong, but - full disclosure - I could be wrong. I took a quick look through postal regs and couldn't find anything on non-USPS bar codes on packages. However, I see non-postal-service barcodes on labels (that are incorporated into the actual label that acts as postal currency) all the time. I'm pretty sure I've returned items to online vendors where the shipping label included a bar code they use on their end on the same label as the USPS IM code many times. In order to print a postal-service recognized label with an IM code, the software printing the label goes through an approval process at USPS. If it's on there, I'm pretty sure the USPS is cool with it because, if they weren't, it would have no value and be returned to sender as postage not paid....Then Sonim sends me a label they want on the outside of the box with the RMA number - WITH A BARCODE. USPS does NOT want any barcodes on their packages other than theirs! Idiots.

I love learning new things, so if you know for a fact that non-USPS barcodes are not allowed, I'd love to see where that is spelled out...

You would be correct. USPS doesn't give a single fuck about other barcodes on the packages.
I know this for a fact because I deliver mail for them. What's really fun is when USPS labels have more than 1 barcode on them, which does happen from time to time. Typically when the package started it's life in a foreign country.
I am also constantly delivering packages from the post office that have multiple barcodes from different handlers, eg. USPS tracking, UPS tracking, and supplier's stocking barcodes.
Semper discens, Zorba - embrace it!... So it was my turn to learn something new today!

If you had a smart phone you could sell it on “offer up” really quickly!
Oh fuck me. Somehow during one of my parts buying spees, I managed to buy the greasable spicer cardan centering ball/yoke thing, instead of the Spicer 211544X NON-greasable. While I'm normally all for greasable stuff, I sure don't want to be greasing this thing. So off to eBay this will go, and the replacement will take a week to get here. And of course the "non" is twice as expensive! Sigh...
Sometimes I think if I had half a brain, I'd be dangerous...
But Zorba , how can you get by for a week in the wilds of the space coast with only 2 wd. ?![]()
A couple of hours a day at home will be nice, when I can sleep at home will be great.
Wait..so you 're saying you had surgery on this knee in 1985 and some 40 years later the metal thats been inside your knee decided it wasn't happy and now you're having to go through all this bullshit? I can't believe that can happen considering the metal in your knee is not open to the air or any way for an infection to occur, especially after all this time. Damn...i'm sorry this shit is happening to you especially right here during the holidays but i suppose it would suck no matter when it happens. Will you eventually heal up and have full range motion of your knee again?

@Apparition you have some competition....I would be the one with the Smartphone out. Reading my news feeds or on this site waiting for it to tell me it’s my turn. I’m the opposite of you. I have not opened my laptop in years. Need to answer email in Rome or Mexico, done. Make plane, hotel and restaurant reservations along with other trip reservations, done. What’s the weather radar showing, done. Need to remember something for later and be notified before it’s due, done. Need to drop a location pin on maps and send it to someone, done. Need to identify a part, take a picture and use Google Lens, done. Need a flashlight tell Seri to turn it on and off, done. My uses for my Smartphone go on and on.
A 13 yr old girl would give ip her smart phone before I would. For good or bad my smartphone is indispensable for me to conduct my business and life. But hey that’s just me.
Also I have All tracking by websites and phone disabled so Big Brother can only track my cell phone signal. which they can do to you regular phone also.
People are becoming even more addled by smartphones than even I suspected. I went to our local DMV today. They're very well set up, you check in and they give you a slip of paper with a code on it, mine was E-382 this time around. They have two large screens in the waiting area showing what code is now being served at which window - IN ADDITON - a synthesized voice announces "E-382 now being served at window 2". Slick!
What does this have to do with smartphones you ask? First of all, you can check in via a QR code, and the system will text you your service code. I, of course, didn't do that, I checked in with the receptionist who gave me my slip of paper. Unbeknownst to me, she also entered my phone number into their system (The paper work I turned in had it). When I got home, I discovered that in addition to the double screen AND voice announcements, that the thing had texted me (I just happen to have texting on right now) the same information. This is fucking pathetic - people obviously can't get their noses out of their phones long enough to pay attention to their surroundings to see the screen and/or hear the voice announcements! Its all about the PHOOOOOONNE!!
Interestingly, although there were plenty of smartphones in evidence around the waiting room, a surprising number of people didn't have their noses buried in them. I was almost shocked...
