@Chris, I liked your post because I wholeheartedly agree. However, capitalization, like punctuation, is not included within the rules of grammar. They are all three different things (grammar, capitalization, and punctuation)...
Did you know that they no longer teach students to put two spaces after the period at the end of a sentence? That's just wrong. The two spaces make it really easy to detect the oncoming end of a sentence while reading. I'm almost a life member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. They require members to pay dues, currently at $120 per year, for 40 years before they give you a life membership! But, I digress. I bring them up because I get a daily digest of forum postings (their forum is entirely more boring than yours
), and the forum actually changes a period-space-space to a period-question mark-question mark because it is currently considered bad to use two spaces. A bunch of us old farts couldn't figure out what the heck was happening, and somebody finally figured it out. Utterly stupid, but there is a silver lining - the old farts now know that when they see the double question marks, wisdom is being imparted!
