For the long road trips and unimproved fire roads the manual was so fun! But as the technical difficulty of the terrain increases, control with the manual transmission decreases... for some of us. An auto and adequate gearing would provide a level of control I as a newer driver to technical terrain can not easily achieve with a manual.

My thoughts exactly.

I actually really enjoyed the manual on the fire roads, forest service roads, etc. It's once I'd get into the technical sections with the actual rock crawling that I found myself seriously wishing I had an automatic.

Not that I couldn't make the manual work, I just found myself constantly playing footsie with three pedals and it was making things more challenging than I wanted them to be.

To each their own for sure. If I was just going to daily it or do forest service / fire roads, I would totally keep the manual.

It does, but a 5-1 Atlas didn't make sense in the time frame I have to get done in. It is also poor economically given that the belly skid has to be done over. The easiest and fastest is to swap in the auto and be done.

That’s the conundrum with building a Jeep. It’s like solving a math problem with multiple variables. My variable is always the bank account!

i don’t envy you Everyone expects Dom on a Coors Light budget completed tomorrow.

Absolutely a preference, and I wasn't starting a debate...

if I wanted to start a debate, I would have said to buy an auto in the first place! and, not remembering the math, and knowing you got a great deal on this current TJ, in this instance, perhaps it was less expensive to swap in the auto, given all the mods that came with the TJ...

I got this rig for 20k. If you consider all the money it has into it then it quickly becomes easy to see why swapping the manual for an auto still has me coming out ahead versus buying an auto and doing all the work to it that this one has.

Definitely the deal of the year. It likely has that much in parts/labor.

A new under seat mount for my amp. It was previously mounted under the dash on a piece of plywood. I like this setup much better:

So, when is the Rubicrawler getting ordered? Don't give me that you don't "need" it either. I know you don't "need" it. Just knowing that dead space exists between your transmission and T-case will eat at you and you wont be able to sleep. Thinking about how that extra planetary could help you out.......

Someone is going to fill that empty space with expanding foam.

That would be cruel. That might even force a Rubicrawler replacement....

But also, just think about that factory adapter. So hollow, only enclosing a splined shaft. Nothing even in there. It's only $2200 for a Rubicrawler box. That's a steal for what you get, 2:72 or 4:1 or both...Crazy all the options. That dead space would be put to use, so much room for activities in that area.
