Y'all are making this shit way to complicated. Here's my solution and it's $5 and you can easily take it from 1 vehicle to another. Works with any phone too !

My phone bounces around a lot, falls out of the holder, is super expensive and doesn't work well when it is hot or cold.
It's the best one I have ever had.

My solution was to take an old license plate and reenforce the top of the radio bezel.

I would never put up something in my windshield to distract my driving or to be trying to manipulate or look at while I'm driving. There are laws against it in many states. I've seen horrible accidents caused by distracted drivers. I also practice safe defensive driving, like keeping one car length for every 10 mph from the car in front of me. Most drivers seem to hate it when you practice safe defensive driving. This is also important during lane changes in case the car in front comes to a stop in busy traffic. I've seen cars under the rear end of the truck in front of them, with their roof sheared off. They were probably decapitated. I also don't stop right on the bumper of the car in front of me. I keep a safe distance in case they stall or breakdown and I have to go around them. I see people piled up on the freeway, stuck behind each other, because they don't know how to stop a safe distance. Then, some distracted driver comes along and chain reaction crashes them all, because none of them stopped a safe distance, so that they could safely switch lanes. It's a mess on these roads and many of the accidents are caused by distracted drivers. Sorry, I had to say it. Hopefully, it will save a life. Peace.
@John Cooper how is this holding up? I did the same thing and the vibrations from road corrugations, slamming on rocks, etc finally caused fatigue cracks of the plastic and the durn thing fell off. The '03+ tray isn't attached solidly and there is little support from the bezel.
