Hi folks,

I’m getting an intermittent P0300 with CEL and rough idle at start . No other codes.Clears itself an no problem for awhile. Which manufacturers should I be looking at for the plugs, the cam sensor and the coil rack when I start throwing parts at this problem. I just purchased Blue drive Bluetooth OBD so I can watch engine parameters in real time. Anyone have experience using this device?

Original PCM or have you replaced it?

How's your battery? Check and clean the terminals.

Check and clean grounds.

Done your OPDA? Checked whether it's in sync?

PCM is original.
Ground is 105 on block . I loosened it and hit it with contact cleaner and tightened back down yesterday. No code today.
Battery is probably 5 years old…no other problems with it.

05, 06 PCMs are failure prone. Hard shifts, cutting out while driving, gauges dropping out, O2 heater codes are all symptoms. Only good fix is a rehosted PCM by Wranglerfix.

05, 06 OPDAs can cause the P0300. It contains the cam sensor and drives the oil pump. If it seizes, you lose oil pressure. It needs to be pulled and inspected for OPDA gear wear and signs of the bushing starting to seize. I would just replace it for peace of mind. Crown is the current preferred choice, but I have had a Dorman in mine for the last 170K mi or so.

Spark plugs: NGK v groove reg, Autolite reg or double platinum, not single.

Coil rail: Mopar (if avail), Blue Streak by Standard Ign

Cam sensor is a crapshoot. Don't throw away the Mopar unless you know it's bad. My Dorman cam sensor has been fine. The original Crowns were iffy, but I think they have fixed them.
