Plot twist, Lando takes them both out in first corner.

I hope it's a battle until the end of the race. Starting on soft is going to be interesting for Red Bull.

I can't see Kimi doing donuts with champion like Alonso did on his when Alonso said he was retiring.

The last time there was a tie going in to the final race was in 1974 and it was settled at the US GP. What a different era. It was hard to find race news back then and it sure didn't come fast. I was at the Canadian GP at Mosport in late September and then the US GP at Watkins Glen a few weeks later. Leaving the track you basically knew what you saw and that was it. We did know that Fittipaldi was the champion though.

As much as I wanted Max to win... Merc got done dirty.

If they were going to unlap the lapped, they should have done it immediately.

Only letting the immediate 5 behind Lewis was... Cheap. Wrong I think.

Then again, the purpose of letting the unlapped through, to me, is to get those racing against each other much closer. The 5 between them are the only ones that mattered.

The more I think of it, it should have been an immediate red. Everyone starts off in their positions, fresh tires, Max has 4-5 laps to take the lead from Lewis. It's the most fair for the situation.

Yeah, like the race director told Toto “we’re car racing”. I guess his priority was getting at least one lap in while keeping everything as tight as possible

I agree. There must be a reason but it's not clear to me that when they know the safety car is going to be out for at least a few laps why they wouldn't let ALL of the cars (8 in this case - not just the 5) through as soon as possible. The rules say "all".

If nothing else, this shows me they need to make unlapping under yellow either mandatory or get rid of it entirely. As soon as that yellow comes out and the leader is behind the safety car, lapped cars need to immediately go around down the straights. No waiting 4 laps and then letting a few through.

I don't follow NASCAR closely but I think that's what they do.

From my understanding of it the reason they don't do that is to keep the workers on the tracking safe. If they let them go around at the start they'd have to wait to send people on the track to clean up because the lapped cars would be going at almost race speed to catch up.

I've always wondered why they don't do an immediate red flag if it looks like there's a chance of finishing under yellow. Like if the race has less than 10 or so laps to go red flag it so it's a guarantee to finish under green.

No doubt about that but I think they could handle it with a local yellow flag. They would be going fast for sure but not racing because they couldn't overtake one another.
