Hey y'all. I'm working in Midland TX next summer and am looking for some places to take my '99 Wrangler out to on weekends. She's pretty stock, just running 31" kO2s. Anywhere within 3 hours or so of Midland is ideal, I think there are some pretty cool spots in southern New Mexico especially (a lot more public land up there I hear). Any recommendations?

Texas in general is pretty sparse for public land, probably gonna want to make some friends at the local watering hole (or through work) for anything near by.

You're basically in a big blank area in Trails Off Road, looks like some areas in South Central NM north of El Paso, Down to Big Bend, or Southeast to Marble Falls over by Austin.

Going to be very hot (go as early in the summer as possible, lots of water), but Big Bend National park is great. The trails aren't difficult, but the views are stunning.

I've heard and seen good things about Merus off-road Park near Amarillo.

Midland is one of the few places I'd say you might consider "close enough" for a weekend trip to Merus Adventure Park. It is near Amarillo, but compared to Santa Fe, ABQ, DFW, or Austin, its practically next door lol. Google says its just under 4hrs away from Midland.
