I just got a set of the 16” moab wheels.
Pretty good shape but Im considering painting them

Anybody know what the paint code would be to stay OEM

Any other advice on the idea?

I don't think there is a known paint code. Any competent paint shop would be able to match it though.

Yes, the face is machined but isn't the rest of it still silver powder coat?
Yes, on the 03 machined face silver painted cutouts on my 05 the whole wheel is painted silver.
Ah, must be what the difference was when they switched them for 05+.

It may have been exclusive for just the 03’s not 100% sure. I like the machined look better but in the NE the salt gets under the clear and destroys the finish.

From what I recall:

2003 = Machined Face
2004 - 2005 = Fully Painted silver, sorry I do not the paint code (2005 LJRubicon Sahara 1000 units) had machined with a dark gray almost black inner and I do not know that paint code either.
2006 = Fully Painted silver and redesign for added strength

Lastly, I just had my 2004 Moab’s restored and opted for a machined face and the shop matched the silver to the factory silver.

It comes down to personal preference, but I am a fan of the machined face hence the reason I had them machined and just had the KM3’s installed yesterday. Attached are photos of the ProComp and the restored Moab’s in an effort to help you decide what look your after.

I just got a set of the 2006 redesign moab's
Pretty good shape but thinking of options before mounting tires

How does the machine shop go to the machined look?

Sanding?

Your wheels look great

Thank you, I’m very happy with how they turned out.

The shop matched the factory color, then removed all the factory silver paint, repainted the entire, placed the wheel onto their wheel lathe and spun them taking off just enough of the face to achieve the machined look. Last step was the wheels going to clear so they are as good as new and they are factory OEM wheels that went through the same process Mopar did back in 2003 according to the wheel shop owner.

I thought about buying some of the knockoff’s in a 15” and have them machined so I could reuse Goodyears that have less then 500mi but then decided against it since I had the OEM’s that just needed refinishing.

Worse part is they are 16” and we all know what that means when tire shopping, limited sizes, load range D or E and more $.

The machine shop work looks great
I imagine it was $ costly too

What size tires did you go with?
Im wanting to go back closer to stock with going down from 4" lift to 2 1/2 lift

I have ion wheels with 35x12.5 nitto tires

To have all 5 wheels redone was $700.00 out the door. Pricey, a little, but not over the top. Tires are KM3’s 305/70r16 and measure right at 33” and 12” wide. I’m running a 4” rockjock/currie kit once I redo the brakes hopefully this week I can post photos of it completed with the wheels and tires with 1.5 spidertrax wheels spacers.

I mounted them up today and here is a photo. I’m happy to have found a way to reuse my OEM Moab’s after years of collecting dust. Brings back many memories. As mentioned earlier these are 305/70r16 KM3’s with spidertrax 1.5” spacers to keep them from rubbing the anti-rock.
