Hello everyone,

I was advised to comment on here by another fellow jeeper from another post. I own a 2006 manual transmission rubicon. I bought it about a year ago and I have noticed some noises in the transmission. No heavy mods. It’s mostly stock with a 4 inch lift. Stock driveshafts. I know these transmissions tend to be noisy but I do not know if this is normal.

Someone explained these noises as “knocking sound” and also, there is some chirping noise on the clutch when I press it slightly. At first, I thought the knocking noise was due to the pinion angle but I’m not so sure anymore. I read on another post that someone else had the same issue but they never posted what they ended up doing to the Jeep.

I notice the knocking noise when I’m on 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear and I’m accelerating, then I let go of the accelerator (to let the Jeep move on it’s on...ps I also hear something rubbing, like metal to metal), THEN right after, if I need to press the clutch pedal to go into neutral, it makes the knocking noise. To me it sounded like the U-joints were rubbing but I had a friend check the other day and he said my U-joints look fine and did not seem to be worn out by any metal to metal rubbing.

Now last but not least, sometimes when I put the Jeep under load or a bit of stress, I hear grinding. I took the Jeep into some dirt road and it made the noise in reverse. Also, sometimes it does it on other gears. I tried to teach my little brother to drive it and he would press on the clutch for a little long and I could hear grinding. It’s random therefore it doesn’t happen all the time. It mostly occurs in the lower gears and reverse.

So there are 4 noises.
1) The chirping when I slightly press on the clutch.
2)The knocking noise when I press the clutch and try to go on neutral on 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear.
  1. the metal to metal rubbing when I let go of the accelerator.
  2. grinding when I put the Jeep under some stress.

In addition to all of that, sometimes it feels like the clutch is slipping when I go up a slanted driveway🙃🙄. Did I mention the Jeep only has 60k miles? It’s pretty low which is why I am asking.

Has anyone dealt with any of the stuff mentioned above and if so, wht did you do to fix it? Or any suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

Forgot to mention... I just did a transmission fluid change. I put in royal purple. It shifts better than before but the noises are still there.
