Just changed my TOB bearing with a MOPAR unit. My pilot bearing disintegrated as well. Replaced with a National SCE1295.

Shifting is great now. Perfect, even. No more rolling noises at idle/nuetral with clutch not engaged. Little to no resistance depressing the clutch/ moving through gears.

However, I still have a roaring noise. 1st and 2nd gear. Roars under acceleration up through around 2000 RPM, then quiets down. May do it in other gears as well, but can't hear it.

Let off the throttle, noise goes away.

Pilot bearing/input shaft shot? Or normal NV3550 trash compactor noises?

The input shaft was discolored, but smooth.

I pulled my NV3550 to investigate a noise. Discovered that the pilot bearing had literally turned into dust.

I went ahead and replaced the throw out bearing while I had it on the bench. The clips on the fork were broken. Found pieces of them in the bell housing.

After reassembly I have much less noise but it’s still a bit noisy like you described. No issues other than some whine.

I consider it to be normal for the NV3550.

When I pulled my clutch pressure plate/disc off my pilot bearing needles came flying out with it.

Does yours have a pretty loud noise under load?
