Novak AX15 Short Throw Shifter

I don't want to sound gripey because I like what you guys do, but serious question....why 3/8"-24 for the shifter instead of something that would accept the stock shift knob? I bought my AX15 from you guys and cut off the threads and welded new ones on because I like a stock looking fake leather shift knob better than the aftermarket knobs that almost always SCREAM "aftermarket". I actually went with an 80s Toyota knob as a humorous reference to the Aisin transmission but the M12 knob was a lot easier to adapt to an M10x1.5 lever and if I ever decide to go back to the OE Jeep knob it'll go right on.

On a positive note, I really like that you used the OEM type bushings so it can be easily serviced.

By chance is the breather installed in such a way as to make it easy to install a barb fitting to run a breather hose up high?

There are a couple of reasons for that.

First, initially we were selling the AX15 to conversion customers almost exclusively. It wasn't selling much as a direct replacement at that time, so there wasn't a need for customers to reuse the factory knob.

Next, when it's used as a direct replacement, a lot of customers choose to go with their original stick rather than dealing with bending the new one to fit. Naturally, they can retain their factory knob in that situation.

In all honesty, you are the only person that has expressed concern about this to me. I think I saw you posted about it in another thread a while back. The Toyota knob sticks out in my mind. :) But, in discussing with our owner last night, I think we should look at options to help customers like yourself retain their factory knob. It may be as simple as keeping a factory stick when replacing the transmission, or we may start offering a stick with factory threads. I'll be sure to update everyone when we work out a solution.

This right here is my main goal for being a member of the forums. This kind of discussion and insight from customers matters to us. It is easy to look at production costs, inventory part counts, etc. But if that starts to negatively impact the customer, we have to make a change. So thank you for the discussion, I truly appreciate it.

Now on the vent, you should be able to remove the existing vent and replace it with a nipple. It is mounted right on the plate of the shift tower as seen in the photo below. Depending on how much space you have between the body and trans, you may have to do a 90 degree nipple rather than straight but should still work.

Fair enough, I can see why it makes sense from your end.

As they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. 🤣

If no one else has mentioned it it's probably not worth the hassle. I looked into buying a factory lever on eBay but seemed like they were all seized where the upper and lower half meet, and I liked that idea less than the fab work to make it what I wanted it to be. There are certain things I'm bothered by that most people aren't, in a way that makes me wonder if I'm on the spectrum, even if just a little. 🤣

In all seriousness, I was genuinely curious. I wouldn't say I was negatively impacted either. I was swapping transmissions to something my 2006 wasn't offered with so I expected some fabrication and the shift lever took less effort and ingenuity than the shift boot did.

Cool. I haven't had as much of an issue with the 5+" lifted and tucked LJ but my smaller and lower '99 TJ got water in the transmission oil at least once. I had planned to do something during the swap and completely spaced it out until I was done.

Another nit. That page is hard to read. I love light characters on a dark background, and you're halfway there. But the varied brightness of the wilderness scene makes text hard to read no matter what text color you use...

No backtracking now, this ball is already rolling! :ROFLMAO:

At our next production run of sticks, we will be making a factory thread version. We are also going to bring in factory-style knobs as well as manufacture our knobs in the factory thread so customers can select which style they want and have the option of changing down the road.

We will also be offering the short throw shifter in both thread options.

It will take some time to get everything changed over on the website but if you are ready to order and want the factory thread options let me know.

Integrated breather and common parts are awesome!

Price is still ouch but everything is these days.

Should have a bundle with the transmission

We kept the price as low as possible. It is a lot lower than the B&M option so I'll take that as a win. Like you said, everything is spendy these days. We try to keep that in mind when making new products.

Don't forget, forum members get a 5% discount.

2nd I wish you'd link your pictures on your website to a larger picture of the product so I can see it in better detail. Like here, I'd like to click on the picture of the motor mounts and be able to see it better.

No idea what the deal is with the link. In post #3. I posted a different one that is working for people. Both work on my end.

I'll let my web guy know about the photos.

Damn right 😆
(Thankfully but oddly enough) The trans shifts smooth as butter when fast shifting,Driving normally don't shift as smooth for some reason. Specifically going from 3-4 & 4-3 other than that it's great 😁🤙🏼
Edit: not 4-3 I meant from 5-4,Its Going into 4

Oh boy. Now I'm gonna be telling people I'm the reason Novak started offering stock thread pitch on their shifters every chance I get! 🤣
