Nikki's yellow throwback Jeep

I had the same issues with the sensor shortly after replacing the opda and the temp dropped at night, used the new sensor because I broke the original one trying to remove it.
Tried several different sensors and had the same issue, would start fine at first then after sitting and the temp outside dropped it would have the long crank then PO340. Clear the code after it warmed up and everything was fine.
Finally found an original factory sensor and haven’t had an issue.
Hi @Frank M , where did you finally end up sourcing your sensor from?

Quick update: got up to head outside in the chilly morning to start the jeep with no real expectations at this point. Jeep fired right up.

and Blind Melon “No Rain” started on my radio. Hopefully I’ll keep my cheeks dry today.

Nick, some time ago when I had my XJ, I went down to the LKQ pick your part East in the Southbay for some interior parts. It's off Main street, east of 805. It was a while back, but they had a fair amount of Jeeps in there. I think it's $5 to walk around. Not sure how close you are but I liked it better there than Hard Rock 4x4 because I was able to walk around on my own with my tool bag.

Edit: I just checked their inventory online...looks like only Cherokees and Grands now...

Thanks I’ll check it out. I’m not too far at all from the yards. And anything is better than going to that pirate at Hard Rock

My biggest question is how in the world did you find a new mopar camshaft position sensor? About two years ago I embarked on a long, fruitless search for one and eventually concluded that they just weren't available anymore. If you bought if from amazon I would venture to say that it isn't authentic, even if it came in a mopar box. There has been a lot of fraud like that on Amazon with a lot of stuff...

I did get it from Amazon. Perhaps I’ve been taken for a ride, I bought 2 I’m going to return them

I ended up purchasing a used one on ebay and it has worked perfectly ever since. I also bought a no name brand one on ebay just in case and it looks damn near identical to the mopar unit but I never installed it. Best of luck.

There is some speculation that the Mopar camshaft sensors are coming from the same Chinese sources as many of the aftermarket sensors.
I was getting that P0340 code, and only that code, but my LJ had no problem starting, cold or not. When cold, if I kept it under about 2500 RPM until it reached operating temp, it would then run fine. If I tried to exceed that RPM too soon, it would go into limp mode. Shutting it off and restarting the LJ and going through the drill again would work. Several start/stop cycles of this would clear the code.
I saw some inmates on here claimed to have had luck with the Echlin sensor from NAPA. I got one, and it was crap. Instant limp mode, cold or hot. I reinstalled and struggled along with the original Mopar sensor for a month or so, then tried another Echlin. It runs great now, cold warm, hot, whatever, and has for a couple months now.
It just seems to be hit or miss with aftermarket sensors. Sucks to keep throwing good money after bad, but this what I went through.

Thanks for the tip!

So I haven’t really been able to get some of the big things done I wanted to after Moab because of The Great Sensor Fiasco of ‘21, but I was able to make some minor modifications to the thimble mount to get it how I wanted it and did the hardcore upgrade this morning, so hard to get the corners level!

That's a great idea for the thimble mount!
