New wheels for LJ

No they are jackasses, they wouldn’t mount the tires on my truck recently even though they exceeded the ratings of my truck. The tires I wanted didn’t exceed the factory tire specs which were unnecessarily high for the truck ratings.

So... Good enough for the truck but not the same as stock? Dumb.

Is this all tire shops? I started doing my own tires cos my local shop yelled at me over the phone for asking them to mount tires I bought elsewhere. Like damn if you really don't want my business fine

Not all shops. I had a small tire shop in Iowa order and install my tires. Saved about $100/tire over discount and they did what I wanted.

Is that far for you?

I didn't think it was worth finding a shop 1h+ away honestly. I don't want new tires to be something I have to take work off for, or waste a weekend day on

Hello and thank you for the help!

I'm looking to get some new wheels and tires for my LJ. 2006 Jeep LJ Rubicon, 4" procomp lift? I put a question mark there because that's my guess, i run 33's currently and it clears them with plenty of extra room.

Plan is to add a 1" body lift, then upgrade to 35" tires. Yes I plan to re-gear...but I'm not in a hurry and want to put on the new shoes first.

I'm looking at Fuel Anza beadlocks (simulated). I'd like to run a 35x12.5 mud terrain.

What backspacing should I be looking for?

Aside from needing to re-gear, anything else I'm not considering?

Thank you!
ZG

Running 35’s is no joke.

You’d want a 17x8” wheel with 3.75-4” BS.

I've always had Walmart do my tires they are ridiculously cheap and don't care what you bring them. I’ve had them mount and dismount countless tires I bought off Facebook. I’m not sure if that’s convenient or local for you, but it might be worth checking out.

Thanks for the tip, there actually is a Walmart by me but no tire center. I picked up some tire irons when I got my latest tires this year and did them myself. It's definitely not easy work but the irons have already paid for themselves and now tire changes are free 🙂

The shop was near my family so I had them installed when I was visiting. They had all the tires on and ready to go in about 20 minutes too, did all 4 at the same time. They were cheaper installed than any online place would sell me the tires for so and I have a buddy with a tireshop in my hometown that was going to mount them if I had to order them, he was unable to get the ones I wanted for me.

Wow nice. Sounds like you got kinda lucky. I got like 20% off my tires from Summit and free shipping so didn't really think I'd be able to get cheaper.

Is it actually a dick move to bring in tires from somewhere else? The way I see it, I own 3 cars, maybe if they were good to me I'd have decided to just let them deal with all of it in the future. But obviously that ain't happening now lol.

No, you're not a dick for getting what you want. They usually charge more for installing other tires.

My buddy sells Goodyear/Cooper but he for some weird reason said the Mickey's I wanted weren't available to him even though they are all the same company.

Ok, PSRivats and other contributors. Thank you all!

Looking at Black Rhino Primm wheels in a 17x9, with a -18MM offset and 4.75" of backspacing. I would run these with a BFG Mud Terrain in 35x12.5.

I don't want them to stick out like crazy?

Am I going to cause myself steering issues with Scrub radius? i don't want to have to run a hydro assist.

Thank you!

I ran 17x9 -18mm and 4.75" backspacing Method Race Wheels for a long time.

I ran 12.5" 33 BFGs with factory fenders and didn’t rub.

I then ran the same wheels and 35" 12.5-wide BFGs with highlines and only rubbed on my front sway bar.

I had a 2" lift on both setups.

The scrub radius was fine, and the steering was fine, but definitely check for premature wear periodically. I'm not quite positive about 35s with factory fenders and also don't know how much lift you have. Hopefully this helped but I'm sure someone with that exact set up can comment
