Hi TJ group. I just purchased a 2006 TJ SE, with perfect body, no rust. Looks like it's never been offroad. Just a bare bones TJ with 4 cyl 6 speed, no AC, no cruise, no hard top, but has 5 nice 16 in wheels and LT245/75 16 tires. I got it for a deal because it will not start. I guess it's the dreaded pcm no ASD energize. I downloaded 1700 page fsm and printed off the pertinent pages. Any advice is helpful.

Good morning from south Florida and thanks for the tag. Are you getting communication through the obd port? Are your gauges moving when you turn it on?

Thanks,

Mark

I spent hours on this, I am an electronics engineer and retired auto mechanic, so I have the skills and knowledge to figure most things out, but this one has me bumfuzzled. I downloaded fsm and copied off pertinant sections. No start/no crank. Here is what I've got:

P0688 code. No other codes. At Key on condition, Guages all light up, fuel guage registers 1/2 tank. Check engine light comes on. ASD does not click. All readings at ASD at terminals normal except pcm does not ground the br/wt wire. I have checked all B+ and 5v values at pcm, ohmed out all ground wires coming off pcm, checked ground connection under manifold on left side of engine. Vehicle is new to me, bought it in no start condition. PO has done a lot of searching as many wires have been unwrapped and prodded. Cam sensor has been changed. I suspect pcm, and may send it out to Mark at wrangler fix to verify, but thought I'd give it one last shot before I do. I guess my question is: what conditions must be met before pcm will energize ASD in key on mode, (not start mode). I've already checked voltage values at pcm for 12v power and 5v, also checked values on plug side of pcm connectors for ground continuity. Checked the br/wt wire for continuity from C1 pin 3 to the ASD relay.

Clutch switch works. If I have helper turn key to on position and I use a probe to check power at br/wt wire at relay, ASD relay clicks on, and engine will crank but not start. So evidently even a poor ground through the power probe is enough to activate the relay.

Am I missing something???

We shall be the judge of that, post photographic evidence for our review, assessment, and opinion.

Step lively.

Any advice is helpful.

I advise full compliance with the above.

Thank you for your attention to this most pressing matter.
