New TJ, poor ride quality

I am new to the Jeep world. I recently purchased an 06 tj wrangler, It came with a 2" body lift (Pucks) and I assume stock springs. The off-road ride is less than I expected. I have the feeling that there is not sufficient travel in the suspension. The jeep has an aftermarket bumper front and rear with a winch on the front, otherwise stock as far as I can see. My question is if I installed 2' lift springs and removed the pucks would the off road ride improve. without sacrificing on road manners. Any advice, spring recommendations, or comments will be greatly appreciated.

Your ride quality is determined by a few factors:
  1. Shocks
  2. Shock up-travel
  3. Tire pressure
  4. Tire rating
My guess is that you have crappy shocks and an inappropriate amount of up-travel. This is why it's so, so, sooooo important when ordering shocks that you cycle your suspension first and make sure to order the right shock size so that you have a 50/50 (or at least as close as you can get) travel. Most people don't do this and then complain about ride quality.

In addition, you'll want to be running around 26 psi in your tires in most cases.

A suspension lift will work better offroad than a body lift. It may or may not affect on-road driving characteristics.

Are you disconnecting the swaybar to allow the front axle to articulate more?

Get your air pressure down - on road 26-28 works well- even less off road. How low depends on several factors - rim type, tires, terrain and how hard you push it.

No, springs have nothing to do do with ride quality. They just bounce until the energy is dissipated. Shocks are what dampen. You want better shocks and proper length shocks for the amount of lift. Then tires at appropriate psi. Need to know your tire size to recommend a pressure. Off-road you can air down to 10psi and be much better off. Make sure and have a way to air up before you get back on road.
