Need to rebuild Dana 35 or possibly upgrade to Dana 44

My first post so want to say hi. Been helping family and friends with their Jeep's over the years and currently working on a other.

2001 Wrangler X 4.0, 5sp, 4:11, Dana 35 with broken ring and spiders. If we end up with keeping the 35, what gear manufacturers are gtg? I've had good success using Yukon with GM's, but never rebuilt a Dana. I know the 35 is weak, but want to be sure the hardware we get is good.

If we do find a Dana 44, what years are a direct swap? Does the brake line clamp and vent tube all mount the same? The TJ has drum brakes, so are the Dana 44's drum or disc? Is that year dependent?

All input appreciated.

What size tires are you going to run? If 33-35" I'd go super35 or Dana 44.
If smaller then the spider gear upgrade mentioned by macho should be fine(as well as the 4.10 gear choice)

That was in Tennessee sir!!

Is there a difference? People think VA and WVA are the same. I try to explain that WVA people have 20 less teeth. ;) 🫢

Thank you for all the replies sorry I cannot add emojis to the thread but I enjoyed the comments..🍻

Actually the underside is in good shape, but the control arms I agree look rough. This is going to be more of a commuter vehicle for awhile so we might just put it back to stock despite the agreed consensus to beef it up a little, I totally see the benefits.

@macleanflood thanks for the tips on the super.

@Rickyd yeah, sorry....I'm in VA. I appreciate the offer.

Late reply, I was going to get the Yukon gearset from ECGS, after going back and forth but the 4:10 is backordered. So will get the Revolution most likely, and might even do all the internals from the same vendor instead of splitting it up....R&P + rebuild kit with all bearings.

Any goto vendors?

Buy direct from revolution

When my Dana 35 grenaded, I replaced with a Dana 44 and had both diffs regeared to 4:10 (or 4:11?). I think they were Yukons. Can't remember now. One thing to note is that I had to have my rear driveshaft shortened by like 0.75".

Drum brakes, brake lines, and vent tube all lined up the same for me, so no concern there. From what I remember, the Dana 44 came from a 2001 and mine is a 2005.
