Hello, I live in Allentown, PA and have a 2000 TJ 4.0L Manual. The jeep runs and sounds beautifully when it is cold (jeep not the weather). Once it gets warm the jeep begins to make a grinding noise when I take off in a low gear. Seems to be coming from the rear and sounds horrible. It goes away at higher speeds. I have taken the diff cover off, all looks good, no metal at all, replace the trans mount and u-joints. If anyone knows of a local tech with 4x4 experience, I would love to work with you to get this diagnosed.

Get underneath it and look at the driveshafts. Are the contacting anywhere (you should be able to tell by looking for wear marks in the metal).

Does the noise happen when you hit the brakes at all?

Try jacking up one of the two front tires. Grasp the top (12 O clock) and the bottom (6 O clock) and see if you have movement back and fourth. (Top hand in towards the fender well and then bottom hand towards the inside fender well). This can help identify if your unit bearings are bad on the front. Sometimes the bearing come out and make grinding noises at low speed.
