We still had C Rations when I was in. Cardboard boxes with cans of goodness...
I might open them up, and take pictures of the contents.
The oatmeal cookie was OK, not like mom made...but edible.
I remember the quarrels that would ensue during Basic Training when folks would get the MREs with the Skittles or M&Ms in them

It's all about how they were stored. Were they in the corner of a hot garage? Wouldn't last 6 months in those conditions.
Whelp, I taste tested a selection of this stuff...
I really feel sorry for you grunts now.
Better than C-rats, but everything tasted faintly of packaging. The only thing chewy was the tootsie rolls.

My parents neighbor was in the military growing up. He gave me a bunch of those while i was in college. Not sure what was in those things but we were able to be up all night drinking untold number of beers haha.

Well makes sense… we fought every king cup, flip cup and bong table around hahaha
I get them on fires occasionally. I keep some in my vehicles for emergencies

I use to have 2 cases of the official military MREs I got before my EAOS. I kept them for 10 years past their expiration dates. I had one kept at work and another in my climate controlled basement
Wasnt brave enough to eat any after a decade expired because theyre so laden with sodium, even when they were fresh, theyd make u constipated.
Actually I forgot, we did open one and the cake or brownie was like disintegrated upon opening so I wasnt chancing the meat slop

Skittles, M&M's .. tootsie rolls.. all i remember ours having in them that resembled desert was freeze dried fruit.......

We had some that came with a brownie that could be used as paving stones for a patio.
