Utah Moab in May 2025

I’ll be there Friday, planning Elephant Hill Saturday. That’s not really wheelin, just chillin. Sunday though Wednesday I’ll be wheelin and would like to wheel with some old buddies and meet a few new folks. Prefer small groups and those willing to hit another trail if we finish early. I’m going to wheel and enjoy some time with my wife. Hoping to scare the living daylights out of her.

It's a great time, but fully agree it's not really wheeling. If I can grab a permit I might hit it solo coming in Monday if I'm too late for hells since it's a really fun and scenic trail

Hells should be late morning. It’s all I really care about that day, and it’s only for reminiscing. The Elevator is always a good challenge. I hope you make it. If not, good on you hitting Elephant Hill. It’s a neat area. Look forward to seeing how your rig performs.

I am dropping my kids off at school (8am) then driving to Moab. That is about 6 hours or so, maybe 5:30 if my jeep will keep up with my speeding habits...

Just let us know when you get in, I could wheel Hell's more than once in a day and enjoy it. Been a long time since I've done some of the alternate exits too.

Pretty sure Sand Flats shuts down 30 minutes after sunset.

I think that's just for the section of Fin's that has camping on it.

"The Fins and Things 4x4 trail section that lies south of the Sand Flats road is open for Day Use Only and restricted one half hour before sunset until one half hour after sunrise."

Unless I'm missing something

But I kinda enjoy seeing when I wheel especially in such a scenic spot.

I’d love to do some Golden Hour wheeling Thursday night. I’ll bring my camera and snag photos of everyone’s rigs if people are interested!

I need to take notes with potential off the "schedule" schedule. Who, where, when.
Sounds like a hoot.

Side angle or high brights?

All I know is that it would need to be better than what I had when I did it 5-6 years ago. That was Trucklites and Amazon light bars.

What I remember was daylight going away and the rock turned into a bright reflected field and all the trail markings would disappear when I needed them.

It scared me enough that I took the next exit back to the main road.

I have the shitty knockoff truck lites with terrible cutoff so good luck everybody else 🙂

Didn't you enjoy ToW in the dark?

Much easier to know where the trail was on that than cresting the large fins of Hells that can be hard enough to see over in the daylight.

That entire day was horrible lol. I don't wheel in the dark ever really. Did it a little bit around Ouray and it was also not very fun.

I'd probably tag along but I'd prefer to most of the wheeling during the day when the sun is up
