I'm putting together a tool set for the road. I have been swapping my tools between my pickup and my Jeep, but that gets old fast, and something always gets forgotten. I already have the basic stuff (tire repair, jack, lug wrench, jumper cables, and the like), but want to get together a set of sockets and wrenches.

Has anybody ever worked out what the minimal set of wrench and socket sizes would be? I am looking at a few sets, between 150 and 300 piece. They come, as usual, in a plastic case. If, however, I could figure out the bare minimum that I'd need on the road, it might save me a lot of space (which, of course, is at a premium). I have ordered a pair of those saddle bags that hang on the roll-bar, so thinking maybe I can get all the basics in those. I do have, however, the behind-the-seat box I made, so that helps.

I could or can do this on my own and will if I need to, but I'm hoping somebody else has gone through the process and can save me some effort. Likely, though, just getting something like a 200 piece set would do.

I'd love to find a metric and sae socket set that includes Allen and Torx sockets in a blow mold case.

I just went through my TJ kit when I couldn't find a 12 point 8mm or 5/16 for my rear shaft u joints. Didn't have one in the kit either...so another socket needed.

EXCELLENT! Thank you. I tried searching but didn't hit on the right terms. No need for further replies, I guess, as there are three or four threads linked from that one. I'll do some research.

Again, thanks!
