Maximum tire size for Moab wheels?

If you have wheel spacers you should not need to modify your steering stops. I was happy to get my full range of steering back after I added the spacers. It doesn’t make a difference on the street but did help on the trails

Ok, some varying requirements. I'm assuming might be wheeling terrain/ differences in each individual jeep?

285/75R16 - **Might require ** 1+ inch BL. Will Require wheel spacers (Spidertrax/synergy) or adjustment to steering stops.

265/75R16 - Mount balance have fun. (0.6 inch decrease in ride height)

I suppose that might be more accurate. And I suppose both will probably require at least heavier tailgate hinges.

Yes, but you risk damage to your tailgate. For that size spare you really want an Exogate / MORryde tire carrier.

Part of my build is to keep the jeep on the smaller side, and stock-ish, with slightly improved capability. Can just heavier duty hinges be used? Or is the tailgate itself not going to support the extra 10 pounds (I think the difference between 245/75R16 and 285/75R16, but can't find my measurements now).

I'm assuming at this point that differences in lift kit (ie exact amount of lift) will have a large effect on how much modification would be required with the 285/75R16 setup.

I replaced my previous 245/75R16E MT/Rs with 265/75R16C DuraTracs and the info I can find shows the bigger DTs are actually lighter. I use the stock carrier with both and haven't had a problem with either set. My tailgate hinges have swung stiff since I bought it but I don't know if tire weight has anything to do with that. I'm considering a MORryde mostly for peace of mind and a greaseable, smooth swinging hinge.

The only clearance problem I've had with the 265 DTs, which are 31.7" diameter according to Goodyear, on my stock Rubicon is a bit of rub near full lock. It seems to be little enough interference that I rarely turn the wheel far enough to notice the problem. I don't disconnect off-road and my trips are probably mild by most standards so I haven't noticed any other clearance problems with these 265 size tires.
