Hi everyone!

I have been repairing my jeep one problem at a time and my current issue is the amount of play in my shifter. (See video here
)

I already replaced the shifter tower (the video above is after the shifter tower replacement) and there is still a decent amount of play in neutral and in gear mostly 3rd 4th and 5th. (3rd appears and feels like the most when in gear). It’s not difficult to shift or giving me any problems shifting but the play has given me issues from time to time. I expect at 138k miles there is to be some play but how much I’m unsure. Any idea what might be the culprit here? I appreciate any help!

I've never even thought about the play in my shifter, unless I had a shifting issue. I don't have OCD either though.
p.s. Is that noise in the video, a blacksmith making new shoes for a horse? :unsure:

Mine and all the others I have shifted do exactly the same. There is no problem to solve.

I wish it was a blacksmith lol. My backyard backs up to a water treatment facility and they were banging on something back there.

Really? Fair enough. It just feels very loose and it feels like it has a decent amount of play. But if that’s the way it is, so be it.

Having the same transmission, there doesn’t seem to be an issue.

But if you wanna wiggle your knob, I won’t stop you… just keep it to yourself

I found the vague positioning of the shift lever on the NV3550 to be maddening. Even after replacing the shift tower with a B&M, there was tremendous play in the lever. Obviously, I knew what gear I was in, but relying on the shift lever position or feel gave you no idea if you were in first, third or fifth. All felt the same.

With the AX15 and B&M there is less play in neutral than there was in any gear on the NV3550. In gear, there this zero play. I mean ZERO.
