Lowered transfer case

Why do all of mine shift fine (greased linkage)? The same mechanism is used on many Jeeps. yet TJ owners complain the most. DON'T tell me all TJ owners are Dems. I shift in and out of 4WD 30+ times daily when using my Jeep for many hours on my driving job. If it was an issue, It would have been the first mod I did. I got $500 knocked off the price of my wife's WJ because it got stuck in 4WD on the test drive. Bought it, greased the linkage and it shifts like butta. 🤫

My 4WD shift linkage sucked absolute poop. First time I went to use it the bushing went kaput on me so I was stuck in 4LO. Now that I threw in the $0,10 bushing, it shifts perfectly. Only reason I see for a cable is when you go beyond the lift of a drop plate, but at that point you will have a whole new world of issues.

Never drove a stock Jeep over a month. Never had any shifting issues either. Lack of maintenance IMO is the only reason for people saying a cable is mandatory. Mine all shift fine and even at 50 mph, I can easily shift into 4HI. No grinding and binding. I've only owned 20 Jeeps though.

I have only my LJR to go on, and I've owned it less than a year. The previous owner completely and regularly soaked the thing with used motor oil (for which I'll be forever grateful). I can't look at the frame without getting filthy. And so even with almost 150k on it, the transfer case shifted through 4L just fine. I changed over to a cable because 1) I was pulling the carpet out anyway, 2) I didn't want to have to screw with brackets or anything if I went with a body lift, and probably more than a little of 3) reading on the forums here made it sound like that linkage is a common point of failure.

Before I got under there, seeing the photos of it gave me flashbacks to an old job where I used to commission these big 6kV 3-phase disconnect switches. The linkages were always some Rube Goldberg setup with pivots and pushrods and pins and bullshit. I joined Team Cable and haven't looked back. The OE setup might have worked for another 150k if I had given it the chance, I dunno.

Hey guys I've only been on here a short time and yalls advice, knowledge is insane! I bout this 97 tj as something to tool around in, I only gave a 5k for it knowing it had been wrecked and rebuilt. It has a 4.0 and an ax15 5 speed. I'm looking to swap the 35s for 31s.....I dont mind the 2.5in coil lift, I noticed I ha e a little vibration during acceleration, I see it has some shims to lower the transfer case, also see pics, the 4wd linkage is messed up...best way to fix it? Cable? Vibration? Try shimming some more?

Im curious what you mean by vibration when accelerating. Where do you feel it? In the gas pedal? The floor? The whole jeep?

Recently had someone do some tranny work on mine and I think they may have put the transfer case back in incorrectly and messed up my angles. Thanks
