Lower TJ with long arm

I would like to know if it is possible to lower a TJ with long arm suspension with an 8” lift down to 4”inch lift by swapping out the springs and adjusting the control arms. It has 20” springs in the front and 16” in rear, so I believe it is an 8” lift that was bought this way. It is a Rusty’s long travel kit if that makes a difference. I have 35s on it as well. Just would like to know what I can do. Thanks in advance

Theoretically. Lots of unknowns there and details to work out. Alignment. Bump stops. Whether or not the control arms have that much adjustment.

Take more pics of the steering/track bars and front and rear suspension. You'll want a stock pitman arm and track bar that attaches very close to the stock position.

How long are the bump stops. Will the suspension compress enough for 2-3" bumps typical of a 4" lift?

If the links don't hit anything you may need to lengthen or shorten them so you can get the caster and pinion angles you need

Shorter springs, shorter shocks, shorten bump stops, shorten track bars, shorten drag link. Shorten driveshafts.

The only thing I can think of that might dictate how low you can go is some limit to up travel caused by the long arms. You find this by cycling the axles without springs (and in your case without shocks) to find the limit to up travel.

While doing this cycling, you keep in mind that the new shorter shocks ought to be roughly 50/50 at the new ride height created by the shorter springs.

Just remove the bump stops entirely during the figure it out phase. Once everything else is where it ought to be, the bump stop extension is one of the last things to worry about. The shocks are the hard limit to up travel. The bump stops are determined by the shocks. The bumps are there to help slow down the final travel speed of the shock before it reaches full compression.

Believe it or not there is someone out there that would buy that long arm kit- might be worth listing on FB MarketPlace. There are people out there that actually think the lesser arc theory is plausible, not realizing at highway speed the axle travels maybe 1” and at trail speed it doesn’t matter handling wise.

Weld brackets on and start over.

Just a thought.

1” travel on the roads???? You must have never driven on Michigan roads😝
