I've noticed this recently, but wasn't sure if it was a new thing or not, until my kid said something about it yesterday. '97 / 6cyl / auto. When I come to a stop, like from maybe 15mph down to 0mph I'm experiencing a low rumble. RPMs arent fluctuating, it feels tires/suspension related but that's just a gut feeling. It doesn't seem to be as present during early acceleration, but maybe it's still slightly there? Hard to tell. The jeep feels as great as always driving at any speed, and I've been driving it quite a bit over the past month or so.

Ideas?

Tires maybe?

I guess it's possible, but it seems like it just started happening. If it was a balance problem I think I would expect to feel it at higher speeds rather than lower speeds.

It reminds me of 2 things: one time I had loose driveshaft/yoke bolts, and then there was a couple day period between when I put on my lift and when I added adjustable control arms. I need to get done with my meetings for the day so I can get under it and see if something is loose. My control arms can't be adjusted except by disconnecting one end so I don't think that's the problem. It's just reminiscent of that.

I have a buddy who is oblivious to how clapped out his rig is. To its credit, it hasn’t left him stranded anymore than the rest of ours and he’s the most carefree guy on the trail having the most fun. When the topic of maintenance comes up, he always chimes in with a surprised “you really need to do that?” Or “ I didn’t know you had to do that”. I think it’s a game for him now. Sometimes I’m envious of his ability to not give a shit.

I just hit 199k, 13k of which are mine over the past 5 years and I haven't had to touch the brakes or the front bearings. That's probably worth doing regardless.

I noticed this problem with my TJ last year, the whole jeep would rumble/rattle at speeds between 0-10mph but it'd go away at higher speeds.

Ended up changing a bunch of parts (wheel bearings, U-joints, Brakes needed replacing anyways) to no resolution.

After closer examination I found the tires were very slightly cupped on the outer lugs due to under inflation (I run 25psi on 31s).
It's difficult to spot visually since the lugs on most offroad tires are quite big.

Measure and compare the the tread depth at the outer lugs and inner lugs.
