Latest tech stupidity

They're the largest supermarket operator in the US but according to their wikipedia page most of their stores are in the west, midwest, and south, so it's conceivable they don't have as much presence in NY.

I personally find their store brand stuff to be of quality comparable to name brand, more so than that of other chains, and are always my grocery store of choice when available.

There are no Kroger stores in my state, but they have a DC that will deliver groceries to my house.

But Walmart is doing what Walmart does

The Kroger info I found stated 2700 locations, but it was wikipedia, while Kroger's own website matches your data more closely. So they're big, not the biggest. I should have verified wiki with a second source.

Kroger and Albertsons were trying to merge last year but I think the gubmint put a stop to it due to monopoly concerns, which I found interesting because even combined they're still smaller than Walmart and it doesn't seem like anybody has a problem with that.

I fucking hate Albertsons. Dealt with them in Commiefornia. They were a little, no-account and overpriced chain when they took over Lucky 30+ years ago (Who had, in turn, taken over Alpha-Beta previously). Overnight, prices shot up, doubling in some cases. Safeway has always been overpriced, but not as high as Albertsons. Publix ("Pube-ix") here in Florida is "Ok" pricewise - not as cheap as Mall*Wart but not bad. Winn-Dixie screwed the pooch back around Y2K over firing a truck driver who - like me - liked to wear skirts ON HIS OWN TIME. The backlash forced them into bankruptcy - as it should have. Its my understanding that they had pretty good prices back in the day. There's a few stores still around after they were bought out of bankruptcy, but none near me. We don't have any Krogers or Krogers owned stores here.

EDIT: We have some Food Lion stores in Florida, but none around me. I don't know anything about them.

Publix has been working into my area for the last 5 years or so. I don't care for those stores and tend to avoid them.

Priced similar to Publix and Wal Mart. We have a bunch around here, and it's usually my store of choice. They also tend to attract a better crowd than the Wal Marts here.

You know the biggest bunch of crap? Albertsons and all these other stores want you to save money with coupons but you've got to download their stupid app just to save money! This is one reason I prefer Walmart, Winco, and others.

Why do I need a damn phone to save money? 😡

Yea, there's that too. So I have to pay $1,000+ for this thing, $100/mo to "feed" it, have to put up with the nuisance and INconvenience of dealing with it, so I can save $1 on a box of Cheerios. Right. I never saw the sense in coupons of any kind in the first place. If you can sell "it" for $1 less, sell it for $1 less and maybe advertise the fact. Like everything else that involves money, its a fucking GAME. I don't like GAMES, and don't have the time for them.

That's why I always like Winco. Employee owned, no coupons, no app, no nonsense. Just the lowest price they can offer on groceries.

I've never been in a WinCo, but from dealing with them on the backside (Helping them keep the food cold) they seem solid.

A part of my job has me going to peoples houses, and you'd be surprised at what people have set up to record themselves. I went to a house yesterday in a normal/decent neighborhood, but the house I went to had a Ring camera on every exterior corner and above the front door, then on the inside they had 2 in the basement, and at least 4 on the main floor that I found. They either ran out of money before they got to the second floor, or just haven't got to it yet. They also had a "smart fridge", and Alexa and Google Nest thermostats. Basically, everything in that house was being recorded, and I didn't see a legit reason for it.

I just have my wife. She can repeat back to me every flippin' word I have ever said, I can guarantee you that...
