Wow, its "only" $50 plus that inevitable monthly subscription, this time at $19.99/mo. I guess people are so accustomed to subscriptions now that they can raise the bar from the usual $9.99. Have they done the "impossible" and created something that is even more useless than a PHOOOOOONNE? All this, and it records EVERYTHING you say...

Its unclear to me whether or not it requires a PHOOOOOONNE or not. It is, of course, shown with one inevitably, but the article also uses the words "stand alone", so I'm a bit confused.

Not tech, but just as stupid is the toilet paper they are advertising, yet another solution to a problem that never existed

It blows my mind that people would willingly allow something to record everything they say.

People really are stupid.

If this takes off - and it probably will - if you dare say something like this, the apologists will vehemently swarm out of the woodwork in defense of the thing. Just like they do with PHOOOOOONNEs and "social media". Its oh-so-conVEEEEEEENient and definitely essential to life in the 21st century.

None of them around here and I have probably at least 10 different chain grocery stores within a 7 mile diameter around me plus a bunch of local places.

If they aren't owned by Kroger, then they are owned by Albertsons 🤫

A part of my job has me going to peoples houses, and you'd be surprised at what people have set up to record themselves. I went to a house yesterday in a normal/decent neighborhood, but the house I went to had a Ring camera on every exterior corner and above the front door, then on the inside they had 2 in the basement, and at least 4 on the main floor that I found. They either ran out of money before they got to the second floor, or just haven't got to it yet. They also had a "smart fridge", and Alexa and Google Nest thermostats. Basically, everything in that house was being recorded, and I didn't see a legit reason for it.

Smith's, Fry's, Fred Meyer, Ralphs, Dillons, Harris Teeter. All under the same Kroger Company umbrella.

They're the largest supermarket operator in the US but according to their wikipedia page most of their stores are in the west, midwest, and south, so it's conceivable they don't have as much presence in NY.

I personally find their store brand stuff to be of quality comparable to name brand, more so than that of other chains, and are always my grocery store of choice when available.

There are no Kroger stores in my state, but they have a DC that will deliver groceries to my house.
