Was planning to leave the country this summer anyway. My wife took a job overseas and I had originally planned to take this job with me but work remote. The plan had tacit approval at the program office and my boss was supporting the idea. Most of my job can be accomplished remotely and we had a plan to cover the few things that can't be managed remotely.
Then Trump took office and him and Musk started hacking at government waste. They offered this crazy buyout and it seemed tailor made for my situation, so wife and I discussed and I took the offer.
Today is my last day, walked around and said my goodbyes, made two girls cry and headed out the door.
It's weird to walk out of a place you've invested so much of your life in, knowing you'll never come back. I've done it before when I was transferred or switched up jobs, but this is the last time for me.
I'm not really sad, but I will miss being part of this team and contributing to the fleet. Aside from my brothers and a couple sisters in the Navy, this is the most talented, dedicated, hardworking group of folks I've been blessed to work with. They produce an exceptional product on ridiculous timelines.

Don't know why I'm telling you guys, but it's a bigger deal than I expected it to be.

Congrats dude. You're living the dream now. Hope you enjoy it

Yea, its hard to walk away from a job and people you love. I still miss my old job terribly - BUT - after my departure, they went "full California", woke as shit, forced the vaxx, etc, etc - so I wouldn't be working there now anyway.

Yep. Heading to Italy. Specifically, southern Sicily.

My youngest son is in Italy, now. Been there about a week. Stationed there for the next four years (Army). Always been a dream of his to live there, so when the Army threw it out there if'n he'd re-enlist, he jumped at the chance. Hope everything works out for you and your wife. Take care, man.

Just don't end up sleeping with the fishes...

One could do worse...

Italians are wonderful people and the food is out of this world. One of my favorite places to visit. Hope you get to travel the whole country.

We'll end up traveling all of Europe.
I've been to most of it...gonna try it sober this time!😅🤣😂
Already checked, commuter flight to Rome-$37.
From there, a eurorail pass gets you just about anywhere for couch change.

Do you speak Italian?

Very little.
Picking it up pretty fast though. Been doing the Babbel program, wife and I are making a game out of it.

In all my travels, the only place I ever had serious trouble finding an English speaker is National City, California. 😅🤣

Yeah, I’ve always been able to get by without it but I’d think living there I’d have to learn it but that should come fairly rapidly with basic understanding and immersion.

Had the unlimited version of Rosetta Stone for a long time but I’ve never finished any of the languages. I get bored with it.
