Colorado Krew Hangout

8/12 is my birthday. A friend and I are going to run Red Cone, Webster Pass and possibly Slaughterhouse Gulch if time permits. If you're interested, post up and let's meet at the gas station in Morrison at 8.

I ran the North and Middle Forks of The Swan River and Georgia Pass last weekend. The bobsled chute on the North Fork has been filled in. Also, the floor collapsed in the cabin at the top and it has been stripped clean of everything. On the Middle Fork, there were the 8 X 8 boards across the river by the bridge. The boards and the bridge are both gone and they have widened the banks of the river. I guess for more water flow. Pretty disappointing seeing as the other cabin collapsed a few years ago as well. It was still a great day of wheeling. We saw about 15 mountain goats between the North and South Fork trails. They were walking down the trail towards us and then around us, looking like they were saying "what's up? We're having a great time too." Tons of flowers as well. It was a really good day.

Do you think it changed the difficulty of the trail at all? Still haven't run it in my Jeep, just as a passenger in a RZR

Edit: Nevermind, North Fork is basically a glorified dirt road now.

70 has been a shitshow at floyd hill Been sitting here for about 30 minutes. Everyone was just walking around or driving on the shoulder. Just a heads up for if you're heading up to the mountains in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering what level of suck that whole thing was going to be.
I’m sure it will be just as fucked when they finally get around to fixing the hellacious ruts up by the tunnel.
The roads here are doodoo. You can tell where the state line is just by feel when you’re driving.

Yeah that section is brutal in the Jeep. It feels like you're going 65 through a bunch of whoops. I'll try to post whenever they're doing anything major. It's a pain in the ass for me when I have to drive on 70 to go basically anywhere.

It depends how big and thick the piece is. You can do a lot in a vise with a couple of crescent wrenches and a hammer. With the proper “redneck fancy” technique of course.
Practice on some scrap first.

If it's under 22" long and you can't do it in a vice, and it's not more than 3/8" thick - I have a press brake (the swag one) they can use as a fallback.

I just missed this nonsense yesterday thankfully. A person who I was supposed to meet was probably 20 min behind me and got caught up in it, he was probably an hour + late to our meeting.

That is going to be an absolute nightmare. I do quite a bit of work in Summit County, think Ill take Hoosier Pass instead:rolleyes:
Yeah that section is brutal in the Jeep.

Its brutal in any vehicle.

It’s a 1/4” thick. thinking i was gonna hit it with heat. only need to bend the tab to 90*

It may not be as sharp of a bend as you might want. Heat the outside surface of the bend. And keep the bend point close to the jaws of the vise. A big adjustable crescent wrench will help make the bend after a lot of heat.

The issue is that the vise will soak up a lot of the heat before the bracket reaches a good bending temp. If you aren't using oxy acetylene, the yellow MAPP gas bottles are hotter than the blue propane.

Did Webster finally get opened up? I can't stand having to exit through Montezuma and taking I-70 home. Are you planning on Radical hill too?
