Long time Jeep owner, figured I’d join the group here.

Just picked up an Electric Lime Green, 2005 Rubicon with 40,000 original miles! 6 spd manual, bone stock minus some new Duratracs and a Bestop soft top. Only thing it’s lacking that we were hoping for is a hardtop, but I’m sure I can find one this summer.

This is going to be my daughters first vehicle, she’s 15 now and has her permit and is super excited about the Jeep. She won’t be 16 until next January, so she won’t be tearing up the roads in our little town (by herself) for a while, that also gives us some time to get it setup the way she wants.

Here’s a pic the day we picked it up and then the next day at home after getting some snow overnight...

Plans for it at the moment are a good “daily driver worthy” lift to clear some 33’s, new wheels, better lighting, some clean bumpers, better rock sliders, and maybe some corner armor and fenders to help keep other kids from banging it up too bad in the high school parking lot! Plus we’ve had a handful of built jeeps over the years, so she’s familiar with them and likes the look/style of some of the rock crawler accessories, pretty much gonna build her a mini mall crawler. Before any of that though, Mom says first addition needs to be a real roll cage lol, so that will likely be first order of business!

Here’s a few of our most recent Jeeps we bought/built/wheeled/sold over the last few years (only ones I have pictures of on my phone)...

1992 YJ, 4.0, 5spd, twin stick Atlas, 60 front/14 bolt rear, 40’s, stretched, geared, locked, armored, etc...

2007 JKU, 6.0 LS, 6L80e with tap shift, rubicon 4:1 tcase, 60’s front and rear, 5.38’s, e-lockers, armored all around, wheelbase stretched 2” front and 1.5” rear, trimmed lots of sheet metal to clear 40’s on a 4” long arm lift. Even built a custom roof rack at one point to hold a roof top rent so we could do some “overlanding” trips with it lol...

Have had a few more through the years, love Toyota’s too, so we’ve had a fair share of Tacoma’s, 4runners and FJ40’s as rock crawlers and even a few pre-runners built for the desert!

Obviously not looking to get too carried away with the new Rubi for the kid, but hoping her and I can put together a nice clean daily driver for her, will be fun to spend some more time in the garage together and help her build something she can be proud of!

Nice set of rigs (well, except for that last one ;)). Welcome to the forum. Please stick around - it looks like you've been around the block a few times.

Great find for your daughter. That Rubi looks to be in great shape.

WOW! Very impressive Jeeps. I bet the build for your daughter will be the one you remember the most. I'm sure she will remember it for many years to come.

Obviously I’m terrible at the internet part of this lol! My daughter got her license back in January and has been out tearing up the streets ever since! We got the first phase of the Jeep done, enough to where she could drive it while we collect more parts/material to build parts and she’s been loving it ever since.

Ended up going with a 3.5” MC suspension with all 8 aluminum double adjustable control arms and their “rocksport shocks.” I know not the preferred choice for a lot of folks on here but I had never even ridden in a Jeep with their suspension on it and was really just hoping it would provide a quieter, and possibly more forgiving ride than others due to their “duroflex” stuff. Honestly I’m not disappointed with it, was a little worried about ride quality of the shocks/springs after the first few rides as it seemed to “hop” over every crack/bump in the road, it wasn’t a harsh, jarring feeling, more like it was just rebounding too fast? I think the springs just needed to be broken in a little though because it definitely calmed down after a bit of driving and rides much better now!

We got to work on it together and I let her do as much of the work as she could by herself with me hanging out and “supervising.” Everything went smooth, install was easy and uneventful and we had it back on the ground after a few nights of after school work in the garage!

We decided on 33x10.50r15 Maxxis RAZR MT’s and she picked out her wheels, satin black Vision Manx in a 15x8. Tires measure a bit bigger than what’s printed on them, which I’m ok with, but it was SUPER tight getting the spare to fit on the stock tailgate carrier. I didn’t want the tailgate to get torn up from the bigger heavier tire & wheel anyways so went ahead and picked up a Rusty’s tire carrier. I liked that it still operated with the tailgate for easy opening/closing and have to say, install was easy and it is a very solid and clean setup, not disappointed at all!

That’s where we’re at for now, have picked up a few other pieces/parts and material for building some stuff but not all of its quite ready for install yet, almost though.

Been working on a simple stubby front bumper and got a good deal on a Warn VR Evo 8S winch locally. Will finish welding up the front bumper and fairlead mount this weekend, then it can get painted and both installed.

Have a rear bumper on order, should be here next week, picked up a set of Genright aluminum rear tube fenders locally (want to put corner armor on before installing those), and still gotta figure out what we want to do for rock sliders and maybe a set of front tube fenders to match the rears.

Anyways, I’ll try to post some more updates as we make more progress but here’s a few pics from her first time taking it “wheeling” here by the house. Wheeler Lake trail, still a bit of snow and we were breaking trial through the drifts, no other tire tracks yet this year. We were by ourselves just letting her goof around and play a little so we didn’t go real far, stopped at one of the bigger areas of snow before we got in trouble lol. Maybe after we get the front bumper and winch mounted we’ll go push through it further…
