Hello everyone! I got a 2001 Sport 4.0 and while installing a lift kit including 2in BDS coil springs. I noticed the jounce cup (lip) catches on the inner part of coil spring between mid cycle and full droop.

What could be causing this problem and how can i fix it?

I don't have adjustable control arms and didn't really budget for them or think I'd need them on a 2in lift. I've also doube checked the spring is seated properly and it's good.

I'm thinking about grinding off the cup lip on the side it rubs (about 1/8in) to make it clear as that's all it'd take.

Would this be an ok solution or would I have problems down the road?

The correct way to fix this is to tap the lower perch and put the added bumpstop down there. I don’t know why all the lift kits in the 2” range tell people to put it up top but it’s wrong.

I haven't messed with or added bump stop tower or cup. Theses are factory parts, not aftermarket.

I should have looked closer at the upper tower.

The reason your new, longer spring is rubbing is because the stock control arm really needs to be a little longer now to move the axle back forward. As the lift amount goes up the front axle moves back.

P.s. usually you would need to add some bumpstop with a 2” lift.

You’ll probably be ok living with a little rub there. The only time it would rub is off-road. Trimming the cup a little might solve it if it’s only that slight.

Yeah making sure your bump stops are set correctly prevents major problems. You'd think I would have learned the first time...

But I had to go and do it twice...

First time I didn't set bump stops up properly after doing my 4" lift.

Second time my springs popped out and ripped off my bump stop extensions. After multiple ejections I failed to reinstall the bump stop and the rear track bar mount came up and severed my fuel line and wiring leaving my stranded on the Rubicon Trail and a 12 hour drive home.
