I usually run an old GoPro on my dash. Good B roll footage for transitions and missed moments...but the audio usually picks up the radio chit chat and that audio is usually perfect for drone shits and time lapses.

I had my go pro on the front bumper for one and then shit all over the lens I didn't see ruined the rest
