So I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler 2.4L with a 6 speed manual transmission. Was about a hour away from home and now my Jeep won’t move at all. While it is running I can shift through all my gears without the clutch being pushed in at all. We are lost...help!!

Another thought:
If the hydraulic clutch assembly is jammed, it may not be releasing the clutch. If you have a wrench set on hand, you can try removing it from the transmission and seeing if it changes the problem.

If it does, you can try driving clutchless, which while far from ideal, might get you home. Basically you start it in 1st gear and time the shifts perfectly until the shifter slides into the next gear. (Never force the shifter when floating gears.) I wouldn’t do this unless you’re stranded though.

I have went into 4hi and low and still nothing at all. its in the shop now but they have had it over a week and still cant find the issue with it. I know the clutch has been going out but even if it did go out i should be able to jam it into first and drive clutch less but the damn thing will let me shift through all the gear without even budging.

Okay, so you’re not stranded, which is good.

First thought is that the clutch assembly is toast. If the clutch becomes oil contaminated or completely worn out or jammed disengaged, it will do nothing but slip and you will be stuck. Hydraulic piston assembly failures are one common cause that is easy to repair. Have the shop check this if they haven’t already. It it is stuck extended, the clutch will never engage.

Second thought is that the transfer case is damaged. To test it, you would need to separate the transfer case from the transmission and turn the input shaft and see if it turns normally.

It could be the transmission, but usually that fails in other manners, like grinding or complete destruction.

Has the shop separated the transmission from the engine yet?

Yes they have it all separated

You can shift through all the gears while the vehicle is running and it doesn't grind at all?

You have a transmission / clutch problem in that case. Take that thing into the nearest transmission repair shop and see what they say.

Did you ever find out what exactly was wrong with your clutch

His shirt is untucked in his Avatar- that is minus 10 forum fashion points. Its on the 6th page of the forum handbook under dress code.

their still trying to figure out which end is front  and it was a shop of younger guys. their unsure how a manual transition works :ROFLMAO:

I’m going to say something that may not be popular but just remember where it’s coming from

I’m a contractor and I basically work technicians - so here it is:

The shortage of technical knowledge is at a critical level in the trades. In other words people don’t know what they’re doing. To be a good trades person, You have to know what you need to know. You need to know what you don’t know. You need to know about things that you don’t need to know anything about sometimes. You need to understand the concept behind things. And I’m going to add that if somebody really engages themselves in doing that they will have the equivalent of a four year college degree and be working on a masters.

Look at Blaine on here- He knows so much about all the nuances of what he’s doing- He knows why things fail, He knows what it takes to make things succeed - In the mechanical world he is a really good example of what you could become if you put your head and heart in it.

Did you find the problem, my 2005 Wrangler sport is doing the same thing, stuck in my driveway. Could use the answer to the problem

Last post was three years ago. June 2022. So you prob won’t hear from them.

So you can put it in gear while the engine is running without pushing the clutch in?
