I had to abandon ship cause I blew out something in the rear not entirely sure what till I get it home but she’s 200 miles away and I’m going to get her today, my question is, is it safe to lock the steering disengage the front drive shaft, put in neutral and tow with the back on the dolly instead of how it should go I’ve only got literally two hills maybe to get over and the rest of the way is flat I’m towing with a 2005 Honda odyssey lx.

Lock the st wheel, and make SURE its not going to come loose, remove the front drive shaft U joint straps and your good to go. Typically when is "flat towing one puts the t case in N, the trans in 4th and away you go, with a stick that is. With the ass end up on a dolly Im not sure of your T case will lube without the rear D/S turning. Why not a car hauler rental? Van to light duty?

Because I don’t have the 1000$ they want to get it back it’s basically in bum fuck nowhere off an interstate highway, fortunately I do have the luck of having a stick shift, new broken in clutch at that, but the best option I could find happened to be getting a 100$ U-Haul trailer cause I’m not a very wealthy man.

A U-Haul car hauler would be my choice . I've used them twice when purchasing our motorhomes . One from Flagstaff Arizona in 2014 and one from Harrison Arkansas in 2021 . The car hauler wasn't too much more than the dolly .

Ohhh y’all mean that and not the actual big truck okay okay my bad yeah see I was looking for one and the sleepy little town of woodruff doesn’t really have what I need and Spartanburg and Columbia are about an hour plus either way from it, very do little nowhere spot I happened to blow out in I’m grateful I made it down the mountain I was on before they broke.

If you were closer I'd help. I pull broken vehicles out of the woods all the time.

See if you have an area 4x4 recovery page on FB. Several here in Oregon.

Yep, I was thinking a flat bed over a dolly from U haul. But they kinda keep tabs on what the tow vehicle is and may not rent you a full car haul trailer.

With the rear tires on the tow dolly, it will be fine with the front driveshaft disconnected from the differential and the steering wheel strapped down. Just try to not make too sharp of a turn because the rear tires are not the steer tires. They need to have some movement to them.
And recheck the straps after a few miles down the road. I know some tow dollies have tow lights and surge brakes but some don't so be aware.
I towed a TJ from SoCal to Montana with my 4-Runner. The front tires were on the dolly and the rear DS was disconnected from the axle. The tow dolly had E-brakes and I made a tail light arm that was installed into the 2" receiver of the TJ to supplement the dolly lights.

Best to you.
