I have some oldie-but-goodie Jeep 'Grizzly" wheels,

I'm going to have them cleaned up and "powder coated". Does anyone know if they came factory powder-coated or just heavy duty paint?

If powder-coated, it's a two-$tep removal/blasting process. If paint, just one. I remember them being invoiced and labeled as "painted" somewhere, but I really don't remember, and can't tell from just looking at them.

Insights?

Should be paint.

To my understanding wheels are generally not powder-coated contrary to popular belief.

OK. That's encouraging to my wallet. The paint body shop is of the opinion my 20+ year old ones are in "too good of shape" to NOT be powder-coat! However, they're not doing that work, so it's not a price tactic.

Powder coat generally isn't used for wheels because it requires extreme heat.

I talked to a very knowledgeable bodyshop guy a few years back when I was going to have a set of wheels done and he told me that most wheels are painted and they they use a special additive in the paint (forget what it is) to make the paint more durable.

Makes sense when you think about it.

Yes. It. Does. Thanks. Also when this baby is "done", you're getting a ROTM submission. Just sayin'.
