Jeep Green LJ Build

Worth the walk from the bridge parking lot.

Damn! No kidding. I'll have to remember that for next time. Thanks!

Nice to see another Jeep Green LJ Rubicon on the forum! Not many of us around since they only made 282 total.
I haven't come across any more in the wild! I've even seen an electric lime green one, which is more rare. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it on Facebook. I love yours as well. I'll be following along!

This meme always comes to mind when I think about that stat.

Big fan of this color on LJ's. It looks like it was made for camping and trails. Looking forward to the build.

The color is really growing on me.

I've always been good at making builds decent at everything. Although my MJ is much better paired for camping (and wheeling in some respects), it's inability to be trusted has really left a hole in my fleet. And this LJ has been an absolute game changer. I'll make this thread as entertaining and informative as I can!

Yeah, I feel like this meme sometimes when I tell people about it. There use to be another one in my area but it was totaled in the junkyard. In the last 8-9 years that I've had mine, I've only seen maybe 2 or 3 others come up for sale. Of those 282, 126 came with a manual transmission. And then for myself 36 of those had khaki interior with khaki hard and soft tops.

Oh really? I'm in the 126 club? I'll be picking my New Balances up on the way home from work today in that case!

In all seriousness, that's good to know. I fortunately have the darker interior (not a big fan of light interiors in 4x4's in dirty settings). That's wild that you have such a unique one!

In classic me fashion, I didn't get around to improving the things on the camper setup before our next trip. I spent a lot of time rewiring my Dodge, so everything else got put aside.

For my birthday this year, we went on an overnight trip in the LJ. I got some more pics of the interior setup this time.

My lovely girlfriend got me this awning for my birthday as well! It seems well built and offers a ton of coverage. I was always against the "bolting everything to the outside of your vehicle" concept, but the LJ platform has changed my mind a bit.

For mounting, I used these, along with the supplied 90 degree brackets. It has held up well so far!

We went wheeling with my buddies with built JK's on Memorial Day. I was having a hard time keeping up with the Jeeps on big tires. Not because of obstacles, but more in the bumpy stuff that I was beating the hell out of myself on. I'm not really sure what to do about that, if anything. My DJI drone also took a swim in a knee deep puddle because it drifted into a tree and shut off. It was submerged for a good 5 minutes. That was nice.

And, the crazy hail storm that barely missed us.

I'm gonna beat @jjvw to it... you need better, tuned, shocks

I figured this was the answer. It blows my mind that $1200 in shocks rides like I have the cheapest Rough Country crap I could buy. If it takes more money than that, I think I'll just go slower.

He needs to air the tires down. A lot of people lie about being aired down when they really aren't. 🤫

Ah, sometimes it's better to ask before assuming. I was between 16-18 psi. I haven't ever ran a lower pressure.

Okay true. Too many people flabbergasted when they hear 15 isn't actually very low

What would your suggestion be for a 33 on an 8" wide wheel then? 16 is the lowest I've ever gone.

...

Apart from costs, a proper sizing and setup makes all the difference in how a shock performs.

8psi will change your world.

So true! Last year I went out with a friend, and it was his first time wheeling. I told him to air down to 10 psi and he told me he did. We were climbing a fairly steep obstacle that required low tire pressure and a little bump. I went over it first, then had him follow. With me spotting, he struggled and couldn't get over. As I was watching, the tires didn't seem like they were deflated. When I asked him what tire pressure he was running, he said 22 psi, because he wasn't comfortable lower. I told him to get uncomfortable and air down to 10psi. He did, then climbed the obstacle with no problem. Lesson learned!
