What are the chances that a hemi would bolt up in the same locations as a magnum.
Thanks for saying it for me. Now get ready for the special folks that take this as an insult and want to argue about it with you.

Strange law. How do they enforce that, do you have to open the hood and show 'em what's in there when you register it?
Michigan is pretty liberal in this regard; no inspections, no smog nonsense, no nanny laws (or at least none that can be enforced practically).
You'd need different motor mounts. And transmission mounts.
...
For light-duty vehicles, installation of a light-duty eng~ne into a different light-duty vehicle by any person would be considered tampering unless the resulting vehicle is identical (with regard to all emission related parts, engine design parameters, and engine calibrations) to a certified configuration of the same or newer model year as the vehicle chassis, or if there is a reasonable basis for knowing that emissions are not adversely affected as described in Memo 1A. The appropriate source for technical information regarding the certified configuration of a vehicle of a particular model year is the vehicle manufacturer.
Which tranny does the Magnum bolt to and work with, Rick? I think with the Hemi, you are better off swapping in a 545RFE as well since the ECU runs both.
To be clear, when you say new motor mounts, are you talking the rubber mounts or are you talking about welding in new mounts in different locations? I don’t weld, but I do damn near everything else, and my brother who is a professional mechanic is a wiring god. This would add a lot of cost but I might consider it.
This comes up at least once a month..... Yes if you live some place that doesn't do emissions checks who is ever gunna know? Most likely no one. But if they ever decided to start requiring emissions testing where you lived then what? Here is the PDF from the EPA on engine swaps.

A 44RE or 46RE but they do have the same bolt pattern. There is a kit out (EXPENSIVE) to mate a Hemi to a 46RE. And one to mate a 545RFE to a Magnum but then you have to run a stand alone for the transmission.
Bellhousing pattern is similar enough to work right? I guess the problem would be crank pattern and pilot hole? Not to mention electronic issues if not using an rh trans?
Yes the electronics are the hard part. From my understanding the bolt pattern is the same. There is a flex plate for either swap now.
Not exactly related to this guys swap but i saw some stand alone controllers for the 545rfe when i was doing a little 2.8l-3.0l CRD daydreaming. 800$ though.
There is no such thing as an LJ, that is purely 100% a nickname given to the TJ Unlimited by enthusiasts.
I hear this all the time, but how does that explain the 'LJ' on the frame tag?
Registering out of the county isn't as easy as you may think. AZ nolonger alows you to use PO boxes, you have to have a physical address. This is where the tags get sent. I also don't know what this would do to insurance. Don't get me wrong, I would totally do it if I had someplace to register the jeep. But then there is always the risk that the whole state will adopt emmission inspections and Iwould be screwed.
