In the process of replacing my less than decent factory fog lights.
Question being, after using the factory fog light wiring to power LED lights, (have not chosen them yet, help?) Am I kidding myself that the factory switch will continue to work. Like the 03 Ruby to remain as original as possible. Again, many many Thanks!

It is as dependable as any of that era of american-made cars.

We occasionally see someone doing one but it's not a very common problem in my opinion.

I swapped in KC day lighters and used a low watt led bulb and have had no problems at all. I think the factory lights were 50 watts and the day lighters were 100 watts.

The factory switch can handle probably 50 watts. If you will be powering more than that and want to retain the factory switch, use it to control a relay and use the relay to power the lights. Super easy!

Super "easy" , unless you are a brainless electrical guy like me, lol. Mechanical jobs are simple for my old self but of it is electrical, might as well call the insurance man as I can smell smoke by just thinking about doing it. Please, why or how does the relay let the switch survive. Thanks so much for trying for help my brain dead self Coda Man

The OEM fog lights draw X amount of power. That power runs through the OEM wiring, but that wiring is too small to handle more power (wattage), so you would use that small wiring to control a relay that takes almost no power to operate. You would then power the lights off bigger wire coming off the relay.

I did exactly that with IPF 100 watt fogs and used the factory line as a trigger.

I’m looking to do similar with some Ipf 968 lights. If I order that Amazon relay wiring kit and use the MFS to “trigger” the relay, do I also need to run the red power wire in the Amazon kit to the battery or am I using power from the original wiring harness? Additionally, did you have to cut any original factory wires? I really don’t wish to cut any original wiring. Thanks in advance!

I hooked up my harness to battery. I did cut the fog wiring after the plug under the fender. If you don't want to cut anything original and be able to go back to stock, then buy a new connector/line that goes from the factory plug under the fender to the fog light. Cut the new one and save your original one in case you want to go back later. I really like the IPF lights with 100 watt bulbs.
