HPTuner MPVI2 & VCM Suite Review: 100% Full PCM Access For 2005-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJs

I bought the HPTuner to recalibrate my speedo in my 06 Rubicon becuase the 241 transfer case doesnt have a speedo gear. The only way to do this is through the PCM. I have not been able to do this and HPTUNER staff has been no help. Has anyone successfully recalibrated their speedo with the HPTUNER?

Most use a speedometer correction device that interrupts and recalibrates the signal as it leaves the transfer case. Mine has a SpeedoHealer.

Some vehicles you can change the speed calibration and some you cannot. If the file doesn't contain a table for speed correction it cannot be modified. Iirc it's located in the vehicle tab and is called speed pulses per mile or something similar.

I ony use my 2000 for off road use an would like to eliminate the EVAP. Later this year I will be swapping the manual for an auto transmission. In the 2000, will the HP Tuners allow the conversion of the PCM from manual to Auto?

I've never messed with HP Tuners so I'm curious why 2 credits for 1 vehicle? I would also like to use the MPVI3 on my JK to install the stock calibration for the Charger 3.6 (295 HP vs the JK 285). Would I need 4 credits to do this?

Bump for my questions.

Bump for my questions.

If each vehicle is 2 credits then yes, 4 credits. You can’t double up.

No, you can’t use HPTuners to change your PCM from a manual to auto or vice versa.

There’s an HPTuners forum where you might get more helpful info.

Thanks. According to the original post, you can enable and disable the auto transmission feature in the '05-06 ECM. My question ask if that's the same for the '00.

There are ways to turn off some features in your emissions system but not 100% sure which features. You can download the VCM Suite for free so you should be able to see which you can or can't.

Different vehicles require a different amount of credits to tune either the engine or transmission. You'd have to go look on HPTuners website to verify how many credits are required.

The newer (05-06) PCM is different than your 2000 PCM. But to answer your question again NO to the best of my knowledge you can not switch your manual transmission PCM to an automatic transmission PCM using HPTuners.
Now companies like FRP or B&G Performance do have the ability to convert a manual to auto PCM.

Did I just get lucky and find this thread at the same time as they were doing maintenance? Are Hp Tuners still a good solution for making adjustments? I have a spare PCM from a 2000 but it had the skim key thing and I wanted to test it out in my 2001. It will start but then stop because of the security key stuff not being on the 2001 unit.
Thanks.

HP Tuners are your best friend. There’s a forum dedicated to them. I’d check directly with HP Tuners for your issue as it is not cheap.

Working for me...

HPTuners can't turn off the security key in the PCM to the best of my knowledge. Also when was your 2001 made? What month? Newer 01's were PCI bus while older 01's were CCD bus. I've heard it as 2001.5 but no where have I've found a definite month that the switch was made from CCD to PCI bus.

If it'll start and run for about 10 seconds then dies that is the SKIM/security key. You would have to send the PCM into someone to have it removed.

Working now for me too thanks.

I was going off of the information on Chris's initial post with the screen shots to turn on or off the skim reader. Yes it's maybe not quite 10 seconds but it's running just fine then full no ignition/fire. Just like when I got new keys made for the 2000 before I knew that it had the fancy keys. My hope was to turn that feature off in the PCM since this jeep doesn't have that but my spare PCM came from a rig that did have that.

Thanks @JMT I will drop them a line first.

B&G or FRP are the two places I know of that can turn off the SKIM/securities features. I could be mistaken so reaching out to HPTuners or one of the other companies first could save you some headache..

What is the part number of the spare PCM?
This would help to identify if it is Jtec or Jtec+
Eg. 5604127AD

The security system in the Jtec is called VATS

VCM editor shows VATS for JTEC and for JTEC+ shows VATS and SKIM.

Please let us all know what you find out about this since it comes up now & then. Be nice to finally have a definitive answer as to if you can or not.

And Thanks @TEZZA I can never remember the proper name for the security on the rigs.

I need to start by correcting for my new 4 hole injectors. I've noticed LTFTs zero out on hard acceleration and climbing a hill on the interstate yesterday while completely alone, I could smell sour converter. I'm thinking my fuel tables being set for the smaller OE injectors are throwing it really rich during PE

Thanks. According to the original post, you can enable and disable the auto transmission feature in the '05-06 ECM. My question ask if that's the same for the '00.

The fundamental issue is that the crank position sensor is set in the bell housing about 180 degrees apart on the autos and the PCM is configured for that, built in with no way to manipulate it to my understanding. In the JTEC+ TJs, the PCM and transmission have to go together or you'd have to machine a mount for the CPS precisely into the bell housing for the Auto position.

It's actually the same problem trying to swap a 05-06 NVG-370 manual into an earlier NV3550 or AX15 TJ. Jeep changed the position of the CPS in the last 2 years of production.

The 99-04 JTEC+ PCM doesn't really have an auto module within it. It doesn't control the automatic. That control is on/within the transmission as I understand it. There are certain auto transmission components within the JTEC+ file even when you are a manual (as I am). All the gear ratios here are for the auto 42RLE and there is a torque converter table.

And in engine controls there are idle controls based on the auto, even though I'm a manual.

And another little update for the JTEC+ VCM Scanner users. I know alot of us have had issues with the vehicle stumbling with RPM between 2000 and 3000 when scanning. I just applied update 5.2.2 which no longer requires a Beta version to support our TJs and doesn't stumble when scanning!
