Hi Gang

Was wondering if anyone knows how many quarts of ATF+4 I'd need for my 2004 Wrangler 4.0 Automatic?

Thank You (y)

The service manual says 3.8L for service and 8.3L for overhaul.

Here is a link to the service manual for the TJ. It's an invaluable resource

Thanx guys for the replies!

If its a Service Fill: 8 Pints Equals 4 quarts
O-haul Fill (?): Could be as many as 8 quarts?

In my case I'd like to have a local mechanic DRAIN and Refill the tranny. I'm physically unable to do it myself. I live in South Florida where Decent Mechanics (near me) are very hard to find. I don't want to argue or take a chance that he doesn't use ATF+4 - So I'll provide the transmission fluid ...

Thank You

Yes, 8 pints = 4 quarts = 1 gallon.
I've not read the manual to see whats done for an overhaul but 17.6 pints is nearly 9 quarts.
I presume the service fill would just be a drain and refill.

Once you fill it you'll realize why it's ~9 quarts. You're not going to know exactly till you start filling. When you get around 8 quarts you start checking the fluid level based on the proper method. Have the Jeep running on level ground at operating temp.

Thank you again! In reply to jonny jeep - Yes Jonny its 'drain and refill' And Yes, I'll be picking up 9 Qrts (just to make sure). As per 06lj (who provided that nice chart): "The service manual says 3.8L for service and 8.3L for overhaul" Would you guys trust a generic fluid (rather than the more expensive Mopar)? If so, can you point to one?

Thank You My Friends
Mike

I use the Walmart brand ATF+4 usually, but Oreilly sells a gallon jug for $29 which is the best deal I've found. They don't always have it in stock.

Hi there hear!

Thank You: Looks like $32 now - but still (as you say), it seems that's the best price around (even if I have to order it).

Thanks Again!
Mike
