Hitch Interference With Genright Fuel Tank

My guess is it wouldn't be an issue... I've had hitch pins that were real tight against the bumper before.

It matters for those who don't want that hitch sticking way out there but still want the receiver hitch.

I get all that. I am sure Motobilt advertises theirs for "offroad use only" and would be useful for the OP to be aware if he chooses to take your recommendation and decide if he is OK with the tradeoffs for the purpose of towing.

That drawing does not answer my question in any way. What is your point here? I can pictures too!

That is the shortest "hitch" that I have seen.

Why do you want the hitch to extend out more? It's recessed inside the bumper so what are you trying to achieve with it being longer?

The numbers are all over the place. @Blackjack said 2.5" is the standard for a 2" hitch, but the variation is large as you see in the thread below. Even with all this, the Motobilt one seems quite small, no? Hence my question.

Tube length doesn't look anywhere close to the 4"+ number in the drawing that was posted either if people are paying attention :)

Yeah, I noticed the difference in length in the pic and the diagram. The diagram also shows the end of the receiver as thicker metal, but that’s not shown on the pic.

I don't think most vendors ever rate their receiver hitches as it's a liability & costs way too much.

Right, they don’t, apparently due to liability issues. Doesn’t mean they CAN’T be used to tow, but just that people are buttheads and will sue over anything and so everyone is always covering their butts!

I am talking about the distance between the edge of the hitch to where the hole for the hitch pin is. 1" or under seems way too short. Go look at any Curt hitch or a factory OEM hitch and see what that distance is, for hitches made for towing.

I get that Motobilt doesn't care about towing and is more of a recovery point. But since the OP is removing a proper hitch, he may be towing with it and needs to be aware of what he is getting into.

Yyep. The drawings don't match the final product being advertised :)

We know that standards are meant to not be followed. Of course you add the "for recovery purposes only" caveat on there and you can do whatever you want.

You answered your own question but just because Curt or others have their hole farther out why does Motobilt need to do it hte same way? If you can fit the hitch pin in place then why does it matter?

Yes the pictures and drawings aren't the same so if you were interested in one I'd email them for clarification. They are pretty responsive to emails.

Strength. Ask yourself this question - what if I make the hitch even shorter and put the hole RIGHT next to the edge?

I have -0- interest in contacting Motobilt. And I still don't know why you posted those drawings.

I'd be fine using it... We all have different ideas of what works.

Then it isn't an issue for you is it??

The inner faces of the bracket interfere with the side wall of the skid plate.

Aha. My Draw-Tite has the brackets on the outside of the frame, while your Curt has them inside. Maybe you can find a used Draw-Tite for cheap.

I have found a few on market place with that style bracket. Im still considering the bumper hitch idea but I do need to move my camper around soon as well.

What is the weight of the camper you're towing?
