Here's a new one: Dash backlights come on-and-off as though I am putting the headlights on

I'm at a loss.

Checked every ground I could find. All look in good order. Candidly, I'm not onboard with it being a ground issue since once the headlights are turned on, running or full, everything works as expected. Thankfully.

Thinking I might have hit something with spray lube when I was chasing the squeaky clutch pedal, I changed the brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal. What a PITA to get to. That did nothing.

Installed a new turn signal assembly. That did nothing.

I have now replaced the quarter century old headlight, brake and turn switches. So, there's that..

I could live with this as is and just turn on the running lights every time I drive... as long as I can remember to turn them off. They are LEDs so very low draw should I walk away with the lights on.

This is going to require a higher pay grade to trouble shoot.

You wiggle around those connectors on the 100 pin block? I had a loose one that was making my lights wonky.

For the purpose of closure on this...

Cliff Notes:
LED 3157s from SuperBrightLED.com were the cause for the Wonky Lighting Issue I was having.



The front facing 3157 turn signal bulbs were the last incandescent bulb on my Jeep, and they were looking really ragged. Every other bulb had already been changed to LED.

In January I swapped in a set of LED 3157s from SuperBrightLED.com. Candidly, I didn’t see any measurable improvement but I left them installed, if only for the lower draw. Never had any hyper flashing issues to this point, so I assumed the relay was in good order.

Then in March I started to see some really erratic activity with the cluster & HVAC lights, the turn signals (left only) and the brake lights.

On a whim I swapped back in the original ratty old incandescent bulbs and.. wonky dash light problem solved.

Never had issue with hyper flashing and with all other lights being properly working LEDs, I never thought to check the relay just to rule it out, but with the limited upside these LEDs are bringing.. doubt I’ll bother. Relay or bulbs.. don’t care.


I'm going to go sit in the corner for a bit, just for being a dick and not checking BOTH bulbs.
