Hello all, much newer to actually posting but I have been a long time viewer of these threads! They haven’t failed me in troubleshooting yet.

Long story short my 97 wranglers ecu died on me. I sent it out to SIA Electronics to have it rebuilt. They told me the cpu shorted and it’s beyond repair.

I then tried to search my vin number to help find my ecu but found my car had been stolen many times and was probably vin swapped. Supposedly I have a 4 cylinder manual, but I can confirm it’s a 6 cylinder automatic lol.

Side notes:
I have no original stickers on the Ecm

“157036” was scratched in by SIA for them

My vin number doesn’t match my drivetrain and unfortunately I have no old records for the vehicle

I asked SIA if they could help me
identify it and they gave me “1J4FY49S7XP493086.” I googled it and honestly don’t know what it means or goes to

I’ll attach photos but if anyone knows anyone I could reach out to / how to identify my ecu any help is appreciated. I’m all but stumped. Thanks in advance

@Wranglerfix can you help him out?

Not that it matters but on the Jeep they are called a PCM (Powertrain Control Module) other manufactures call them ECM's or ECU's

Wranglerfix repairs PCM's and might be able to help out or to let you know what part# PCM will fit your application.. Just to clarify, you have a 97 that someone swapped a 4.0 into along with a 3 speed automatic transmission?

This probably was the VIN that was in the PCM. If we look this up on the FCA Jeep VIN Decoder, we get the following......

Gotcha didn’t realize it was pcm lol, thanks for the site though I’ll check them out. Also indeed it was swapped to a 3 speed and 6 cyl

1997-98 ECMS can be programmed for auto, manual, 2.5 or 4.0. I can match whatever vin is on your chassis as it will not affect drivability. You can call me to discuss in further detail if you’d like.

Thanks,

Mark

That would be lovely, I had no idea they were interchangeable. Never had to do any pcm work before so when I saw a list of 44 options I had no idea what to go with!
