I wanted to take a second to introduce ourselves for those that may not know about us. We are Novak Conversions. We are a Jeep Conversion Company. We are proud to be a USA based company that has been family owned, and in business since 1967. We have assembled decades worth of knowledge of Jeep stuff, specifically powertrain related information. Most of us here are Jeep enthusiasts, like you.

First and foremost, we are here to be a reliable resource for the community here. We are available to answer questions through the forums, private messages, emails, and over the phone (see website for contact info). While we would love to have you as a customer, we are happy to help anyone regardless of purchase history.

Looking forward to engaging in the community!

Hello Dustin, welcome to the forum. Great to have you and the Novak team here to help with input on conversion topics.
Since this is a community geared towards Jeep TJ and LJ, could you maybe spotlight some of your conversion projects to get the discussion started.

Thanks!

Great idea! We are working on getting some things together and will post as soon as we can.

Since at some point will be replacing manual trans in my 01 TJ a complete list of what be needed from you to do AX -15
I believe you do sell the transmission

I'll need more information about your Jeep to do a full list, shoot me an email (dustin@novak-adapt.com) and I can get it all put together. Yes we do sell complete transmissions and the AX15 is a very popular one for good reason.

Hey Novak! I bought your stage 2 4l60 trans and a bunch of other goodies not too long aago. I'm still in the beginning stages and was wondering if ya'll know of anyone that makes a good oil pan skid plate for the 5.3l? I'm thinking of using the Hummer pan due to it's shallow profile.

Why not go with an engine skid made for the TJ? There are a few of them out there, and don’t need to be specific for the little 5.3. Better protection than just an oil pan skid.

NashvilleTJ took the words out of our mouth. You don't need to limit yourself to something specific to the 5.3 and will likely find better options out there if you don't. We don't have any specific recommendations on that however, but would love to hear what you find that works well so we can pass it on to others.

I just did the conversion from the NV3550 to a new Novak AX15. I worked with Jay in sales at Novak. Very helpful guy.

The parts list is short. Everything bolted right up. I had ordered the new AX15 gear box, adjustable transmission mount and the reverse light pigtail from Novak as well. Neither of the latter two were needed. The reverse light harness was long enough to route to the other side of the gear box and the stock transmission mount from the NV3550 worked fine.

I also did a new clutch master cylinder and slave, LUK clutch kit, a National HD throwout bearing, bearing fork. A transfer case shifter cable is recommended "while you're in there".. I already had it. And, I already had the B&M Short Throw Sport Shifter on the NV, but it's a different base for the AX application so I ordered a new shifter too. The AX ships dry so you need 3.3 quarts of gear oil. I used Royal Purple SynchroMax.

It's not a project I would have done had the NV not had a catastrophic failure but now that it's done.. Good lord.. what a great improvement. The transmission and clutch are the ultimate wear items and degrade over time. You get used to them as they get worse and worse. The new gear box was particularly tight at first. Exacerbated by the short throw shifter. But within just a few hundred miles it was.. is amazing. It wasn't cheap but the TJ is my daily driver for now and is a keeper. All quotes I got for NV3550's, rebuilt or new, were actually more than new Novak AX15 and many options were click bait.. either unavailable or months out. I wasn't about to install a used NV and potentially take on someone else's problem. So, Buy once Cry once.

All done, I strongly recommend the Novak AX15...

That's great to hear! Glad you're enjoying the new set-up and thank you for the positive feedback.

Whats a baseline GenIV LS swap cost for a TJ

I dont need to know the cost of the engine, just every needed item and roundabout parts total cost plus harness mods. The engine I can source myself

I know one you can start with! ;)

Mind sharing details and costs??

I am curious what an LS GenIV conversion with a manual trans would run minus me sourcing the engine. Ive done a few LS swaps into classic cars

Im assuming this AX15 is the more desirable manual
