Hi Everyone - my son and I are rebuilding a 98 TJ and have run into a small problem with the vacuum lines under the dash. The red vacuum line is cut in half and I need to replace it. Does anyone have an idea on the size of the line. I found some on Amazon that are listed as 3/6/8/12 MM sizes. I can't find reference to it in the parts manual. I posted a picture for reference. Also all of the rubber elbows need to replaced too so a link to replacements would be fantastic.

Vacuum line? That's not a vacuum line, it's a wire. All you have to do is strip the ends, twist them together, solder, and then heat shrink.

Thanks Chris - it's actually attached to the Vacuum line connector on the heater & A/C box under the dash. Each of the color coded lines go to one of the vacuum actuators that control the various plenum doors. Definitely a hollow vacuum line.

No kidding? Looks like wires to me! However, I haven't been under there, so I'll take your word for it over mine!

Anyways, maybe something like this to go over it?

There's some thin 4mm line in there that might work. You could slide it over the red line and use some sort of epoxy or similar to seal it perhaps?

Take a piece to your local auto parts store like napa and get a piece of tube to fit over the vacuum line and use it as a coupling or have them match the tube. Forget the Autozone and like stores.

You could try some heat shrink with the adhesive on the inside, but you have to be real careful and not melt the tube. Maybe cut the ends square, hold the joint together with a wrap of electrical tape then slide the heat shrink over it and shrink it down on low setting.

Or maybe a tubing splice connector from an auto parts store would work too. If they make them that small and the inside isn’t too small to restrict the flow.

I was not able to find a replacement vacuum tube harness for left hand drive. I ended up using the heat shrink idea and works great. I did a double layer of heat shrink tubing for good measure.

Bump to this post. I have almost the same issue only at the opposite end of the red vac line. Mine broke near the top heater box actuator where it goes into the harness bundle above the heater box. There isn’t any way to reconnect/splice back together. Does anyone know a source for this small vacuum tubing to run a new line from the dash control panel ? Looked through many posts here and online extensively with no luck.

If you have a local napa they usually have small rolls on the Help display Rack. It's basically the same size as the oem tube.
