Headlights stopped working after replacing driver side

The other night I replaced one headlight. Worked fine till I came out the next day and noticed they will not turn on. I checked all the fuses found 2 that were blown but I don’t even remember what they were for. But I replaced them anyway and nothing changed. And as far as I know those fuses were not noticeable anyway. I even checked when I put the new one in but it still was fine.

I checked the voltage coming to the headlights and there was nothing at all. All of the marker and the fog lights work fine. I’m guessing I need a new multifunction stalk because it had no low beams.

I would not really care because I don’t drive at night and in an emergency I have the fog lights. But I don’t trust them because they caught on fire once lol. But as you will see in the attached video after I checked voltages when I turn on fogs it illuminates the right blinker. So that’s not good. Is the stalk dead?

And another thing is. Do I need to replace ignition cylinder? When I pull on it it turns the radio off. Thanks!

I'd be investigating the multi function switch and the plug that plugs into it. Good chance you'll find the plug burnt up. If so, splice in a new plug, maybe a new multi function switch, then do the Toyota headlight/wiring harness mod. I'd fix that issue before moving on to the ignition switch/radio issue. One thing at a time especially when working on electrical issues.

The ignition can wait. It is whatever and only does it when pulled on. What is this Toyota wiring mod? I'm not sure I want to splice the wires. If i have to spend 80 bucks so be it

There is a ground wire by the left headlight that attaches to the grill. You didn't accidentally break that when installing the new light did you?

Nope I checked that as well. I even tried probing the female end of the harness and touching it to a bunch of bare metal spots. Nothing. Plus that would not explain why they both stopped working. I took the light out from the front. Never even opened the hood.

If you install a new MFS you should also install a relayed headlight harness to keep the current from going through the switch and burning it again. You can get the harness for $13 on eBay and takes 10 minutes to install. It will also make your head lights brighter by bypassing your switch which is a chokepoint for current. The fog light power also runs through the switch. No one makes a harness for this but I'm in the process of making one.

It is a silver star headlight. I have had an extra in my garage for 8 years. It’s not an aftermarket one if that’s what you are thinking

It has nothing to do with the brand headlight. You apparently didn't understand the point of my post.

I took it as you need that if you have aftermarket headlights. I did not specify I replaced it with a normal halogen. So I thought you may have assumed I changed to LEDs. Sorry? I did not mean to sound angry lol.

Mine did that too when I changed headlights- don’t know why it triggered the event with the bulb changes 🤷🏽‍♂️ but it did. it was temporary the first time- the 2nd time I went in and clean the contacts in the column MFD switch. The observation is that there is to much amperage running through the switch- the relay mod is to take the load out of the switch so you won’t need to revisit the problem.

We just had a thread in this and updating the fog light relay as well.
